Lexus miscalculated demand for ES 300h
LS: $20-30,000.
GS: $10,000.
RX: $5,000.
With these premiums it would take 10 or more years to recapture your cost of purchasing a hybrid. Not surprised that hybrids only comprise 23% of overall Lexus sales. I think the ES 300h is unique in that it costs only $2,700 more than the ES E350 and takes 3 years to recoup. People who want stictly performance will opt for the GS, others who want a buttery smooth ride, Lexus reliability, new sleek design will opt to go for the ES 300h.
