Spark Plugs
Hey guys
I have a 2013 ES350 with 66000 miles in excellent condition. I was wondering if I should change the spark plugs. not due to mileage but plugs are close to 12 yrs old. I'm concerned about having them seize up and be impossible to remove at some point? I only drive the car about 4000 miles a year so it would take me 15 years to get to 120,000 miles lol . I'm an old timer (78) so its not likely I will be driving at all in 15 years. I could just loosen them up and retighten them, but if I do that I might as well have them replaced . I can loosen the front ones myself but I can't mess with the back ones. I would have to go to the dealer. Thanks |
Plugs won't seize in the head you don't have to worry about that, you're not driving a Ford lol. Iridium plugs last easily 100,000 miles but if you're still wanting to replace then buy direct from Denso to avoid fakes.

Thanks for your reply. The dealer wants $700 to replace them, so I'll just leave them for now.

I went to an Indy Mechanic and he recommended I replace them. I have 85k miles on mine 2016 ES350. He mentioned since I'm in NYC/NJ you replace at around 60k miles. He quoted $320 for parts and labor. He even did a PPI for free. He recommended I changed them to potentially improve gas efficiency and also Timing Belt $140 (parts and labor).

Sorry I meant the belt

Based on cost and being the only belt, pretty sure they're referring to the serpentine belt.

Buy the right plugs and hand it to the mechanic. Pay him for labor.

That is a good price since the rear bank are a PITA. The key to this whole thing is to find the shop/mechanic that you can trust. My 2014 ES350 has almost 100,000 miles on the original plugs so I too, was considering whether to replace them even though my annual mileage is under 10,000 a year. However, I just returned from a highway road trip of over 375 miles and returned with 31 MPG! that is absolutely amazingly crazy for such an old car with 100k. I pulled the front bank of plugs after the trip and they look pretty good. I am opting to wait until I get to 120k and then will change them along with the back 3 coils and the O2 or air fuel sensor (since I am in that area). I wish here is SoCal I could find a reasonable mechanic that I trust.
I'm averaging 22 MPG |
