Keyless Entry Door Controls Do Not Work

2016 Lexus ES 350. Cannot unlock the vehicle when using any of the entry door handles or handle touch sensors. The touch sensors will not lock the car when exiting the vehicle. When touch sensor is activated to lock the car, a tone is activated and a warning message appears on the dash “Key Left Inside Vehicle” and the lock will not activate. The keyless entry system works normally using either of the two FOBs. A red light on the FOB comes on momentarily when any door handle sensor is touched. When approaching the drivers side door and the car is locked, the light on the mirror does not come on. The trunk lock works normally with the FOB or the Manual open switch on the trunk. Both FOBs have new batteries. The problem has been present for a long time and I am not aware of any event that may have caused the malfunction. Would appreciate any feedback on how to fix the problem. Thanks

You definitely have taken the proper steps. Short of getting a ODB code reader, or using one at AutoZone, perhaps you would consider trying to disconnect the 12 volt battery for 20 minutes or so. This will reset the OBD and other computers, along with erasing radio memory settings. However, I had a problem with my 2014 ES350 that would keep ringing the seatbelt button even though I was firmly buckled in. Once I reconnected the battery the problem went away and that was over 3 years ago. Please keep in mind that disconnecting the battery will also reset the emissions testing readiness computer. So don't disconnect if you have an inspection coming up. I hope more experienced forum members chime in with other suggestions.

Thanks for your comments socaltubbs. Before your response was posted, the two year old car battery failed last weekend and the car had to be jumped to get home. I purchased a new battery and replaced it at home. After reading your recommendation to leave the battery disconnected for a period of time to fix the keyless lock problem, I planned to try that approach. However, the next day, I discovered that the keyless lock system was working normally again. Apparently disconnecting the battery during the replacement process with minimal battery power interruption time was enough to reset the keyless lock system. The deeply discharged battery and the jumping process could have also interrupted the circuit enough to reset the keyless lock system.

Thanks again!
