Tire Pressure Sensor Issue

Hey everyone! I'm looking for some advice. My wife's got a 2016 es300h and the low tire pressure sensor would flash - so Firestone replaced the sensor that was not reading. But nothing shows up for any of the tires now (they told her drive it a.couple miles and it'll sync back up). They are telling us that they can read each tire pressure independently on their machine and that it must be the ECU that measures the TPMS's and displays it on the dash that also failed. It seems odd to me that two things could've failed at the same time. Admittedly- not impossible... but strange. Anyway - has anyone else had to replace that ECU?

Any suggestions on how to find the part #? Or where it is located? I'm not afraid of taking things apart to find it.

My first guess is that they used the wrong sensor. The wrong sensor will turn out the actual tire light, but will not show air pressures. Generally the correct part is also more expensive. Ask them to double check part numbers again.

That was my first thought as well - we went back 3 times and they claim to have double checked it and determined it was the right part

Does your receipt show part number / brand. The 2013 and up take a different sensor than the earlier years

It says DVT-PRO DUAL BANDED. I don't see amy particular part # though. Does that sound right?

Not familiar with the brand but still gonna say wrong part

Most aftermarket cloneable sensors do not fully work on these gen ES. They do read the pressure but the car cannot locate which sensor is at which wheel and just displays "---".

They used the wrong sensor, or they did not clone correctly. It may send a signal, but your car does not recognize it.

I used Denso 550-0105 units, purchase thru Amazon for $41.00 each They are advertised as "no programming" which can be misleading. Out of the box, they are ready to go (programmed) , but you must use a relearn procedure to load the new ID's thru the OBDII port. Once you do this, everything work correctly, pressures show, no TPMS signal. low pressure warning is correct.

If you are replacing one, you can copy the ID number from the old one, to the new one, and you will not have to do the relearn.

I bought an AUTEL TS508 and it took we about 20 minutes to do everything.

I also had Autel installed on my winter rims/tires and the same thing....cloned the Autels to the same IDs as the OEM and no problem at all. Just do a seasonal switch of rims and away we go. No warnings, correct pressures displayed, no need for reprogramming of the car's computor. For this reason I recommend that you obtain preemptively, (either by a tire dealer or your own OBDII dongle/app), the IDs for your OEM and store that info in a safe place to be used at some time later. It is getting on to 10 years on the OEM sensors so will be time to replace them in the near future. Will go with the Autel again.

Almost all of my Autel sensors are dying after 5-6 years (got 16 of them installed). And the ones on 6ES also fail localization - so I get "---"s displayed instead of PSI. Needles to say I am not going to buy those anymore.

Discount tire if you have one near you installs Pacific brand sensors which is who makes the ones sold under the Denso name for $65 for sensor and install. I've had 6 replaced by them on a Prius and my ES and never an issue with them.

As a follow up, DENSO makes the original units. That is why I decided to buy that brand. I wanted to avoid the multi-vendor salute issue with many of the other brands. The ES is different than my RX which does not have individual pressure readings.

The AUTEL units can be easily cloned with the TS508. They are inexpensive, so \if you get 5 years out of them, in many instances, that may be workable,

I will comment that the TS508 is a great investment.

Pacific Industries makes the OEM sensor but Dill and Denso rebrand it and sell it as their own

They can be cloned even with $50 Autel Maxi Pad. The problem is in my application (winter tires driven about 5k miles per season) these sensor hasn't even lasted a single tire change. And replacing them is about $30 per tire just in labor - so any cost savings are gone, plus the hassle of dealing with these issues.

Are you storing the tires aired up or flat?
