Haven't got the car scanned yet... Is this usually a minor issue or major issue, could it be an "error message"?? Or is this message a major issue usually?

Is this just a general message and it could be anything????
Thanks

I uploading the pics twice and they are not there, not sure what's going on... Got the car scanned and 2 codes popped up. 441 and 455... The car seems fine and the mechanic cleared the code. I am taking it back in a week.

That’s an EVAP code. Check your gas cap/o-ring for the beggining.
The cap may be loose. Turn it clockwise until click.

That's both codes??

I just checked out the o ring on the gas cap and it looked find, but I'm a novice at this and don't know. I made sure the gas cap was on straight and it clicked. Since my mechanic got rid of the check engine light code earlier today, how do I know if the gas cap was not tightened or put on straight? Does he scan it again or will the code come back?

ESh Sep 11, 2023 03:43 PM

If there’s a problem the codes will come back. Drive it normally, it’s a minor problem.

Ok thanks for all the help... I have an appointment in a week and will probably drive it 150 miles up until the appointment. I got to have my mechanic put the scratch in dent battery in anyways and hopefully it was just the gas cap being not on right.

A smoke machine can make it a lot easier to find, but check around for cracked or loose hoses.

Another common cause of Evap codes is over filling the gas tank which pushes fuel into the evap lines and components. Just stop fueling when the nozzle clicks off the first time.
These cars use a small vacuum pump to test for evap leaks after the car has set for 4 -5 hours and temperatures stabilize. Some owners have noticed a humming noise from under the car when the self test is running. If the leak test fails the ECM sets a evap code or two depending on the type of failure detected.

When the gas gets into EVAP tank, it gives another code.
