Low Oil Level
 

Hello,

My low oil level comes on just before I usually have to do an oil change. Is there almost no oil if the light goes on?

I have driven other cars and have always continued to drive the car for a long time and eventually got an oil change after such a warning. Someone told me that Lexus cars have virtually no oil left if the light comes on. Does anyone know if this is the case?

The low oil light should come on when oil is low by about 1-1.5 quarts, basically at the bottom of the dip stick. Total capacity is 6.4 quarts.

You shouldn’t continue to drive with a low oil light, it can cause some irreversible damage to your engine that is far more expensive than topping off your oil.

1. How many miles have you had on your oil when the light comes on?

2. Are you checking your dip stick and adding oil?

3. Are you sure it’s not the oil change reminder light?

I just wanted to know if there was virtually no oil left if the light came on. It seems like it's just a quart or so that is gone. Thanks for that answer.
