Folks I have a 2010 Es350 with Navi, It is 11-year-old map, what are the options I have to update it. I researched of course one option is to take to the dealer and pay 300 dollars to update, 2nd option is to replace the infotainment system with android and then never worry about updating it. Or if there is any after-market option to update the map through the chip. I am planning to keep Lexus for the next 7 to 10 years, it is 95 K miles without any issues. Thanks in advance
This is my current GPS
I just bought a 2009 but am waiting for delivery. (They are fixing a few things.) I see on eBay there is a 2016 DVD for the ES for about $10. Lexus stopped updating the nav after 2016.
I’m considering a whole replacement of the infotainment system but haven’t seen one I like yet.
ya, I'm guessing a 2010 would still have the dvd, you have to pull a little panel off to see it. its hidden. its on youtube videos all over the internet. I bought one of those $10 dvd's, but I'm not convinced its updated. iIn the Texas backroads where I really needed it, it was about same as old one I had. but it works.
That eBay replacement display/control unit looks awesome. I’m new to this forum, has anyone tried it yet? For less than $600 it seems like a great deal. Too good to be true?
Hi. I have looked into this Android navigation update as well. There's a few issues to consider. One of them is that the rear view camera on the Android device is a different voltage than the current rear view camera.
So with that being said, you would likely lose your backup camera use unless you buy a new one, and install some new camera that is compatible and then manage to hook it up, but likely it won't be linked to the shifter so that when you go on reverse, the camera will not display automatically.
Searching through some of the other forums, there was a Korean made navigation update that tied into the current Lexus screen, but I could not find out who makes it, or how to get it important to United states.
Note I can not remove the plate ( red arrow in the 2nd snap shot ). It looks like screwed from the back and I think there is no hidden CD slot there in my case. I have seen many videos but I noticed those with the wood trim like mine are hard to update as no CD.
I researched more and there is another option which is just buy an aftermarket GPS and stick it on the dashboard. See image below. Then no need to mess with wiring or tear it down. It will be always good to have a stand-alone device.
What year is your ES? 07-09 should be DVD based nav. The DVD is behind that panel. Is yours a 10-12? I don’t k on how those are updated but I’m new to this car. Surely this is well know information.

Mine is 2010 ES. I tried really hard to pop up that plate in that process I broke a small chip that I need to glue back. I might go with something like standalone and will then do not worry about messing up with other integrated infotainment system features of ES like maintenance, and other menu options.
I honestly don't think these things are worth the money. I got a Bluetooth adapter that plugged into the back of the head unit. I could then use my phone for maps, music etc. through the cars radio. Even the steering wheel controls worked. I can't remember the brand and model but it was a lot less than $600 and really easy to install.
Unfortunately though, it is starting to show its age. My newer phone with a newer version of Android doesn't want to work properly with it. I have to manually content sometimes but once that is completed it's still pretty good.
I thought about getting a newer adapter that could do wireless Android Auto but since the car is >13 years old I'm not sure I want to spend the money.
I like the idea of Waze on a larger screen, Spotify, and other apps displayed on the front screen. I also like the ability to use voice search for navigation instead of typing. The Grom looks like it will work seamlessly. I’ll post results soon

I’m very happy with the Vline, once I got it installed! The provided harness had to be modified to provide constant 12v power to the Vline. That job involved jumping power from the OEM harness over to the Vline harness. The tech support guys at Grom were very helpful.
Wireless CarPlay works well when I works. Occasionally it takes a bit to get online and show up on the dash screen. Worst case, I can reboot the Vline and it works then.
Voice navigation works well but is a little slow to respond. Spotify is great and it’s nice to be able to play YouTube (sound only) while navigation is displayed.
it is possible to run only Android apps but that requires disconnecting from CarPlay. That only takes a few buttons to push but getting back to CP may or may not work immediately.
All in all I’m very happy to have current maps and wireless music. Recommended.
Was it hard to install? i was thinking of adding that to my 2010 ES as well, but im a bit worried about ripping that dash apart. The car is 12 years old and still not a single squeak in the cabin. Worried i might compromise that.

The dash could hardly be easier to open up. There are videos but essentially all you have to do is remove some snap on side panels and remove four fasteners. The hard part is handling the heavy radio stack. Place foam on the center console so it won’t scratch it if when you remove the stack.
the hard part was jumping the 12v power from harness to harness. I’m not sure if you will need to do it. I had to but my car is a hybrid version. NAV but not Mark Levison.
