Just curious: Would anyone consider purchasing something like this?? I'm wondering if there is anyone who has had a good experience with a salvage titled car.

It will be very difficult to re-sell and you must have it inspected before considering purchasing it. I would not touch it as there are too many other nice ESs available.

Unless it’s an obscene deal or you plan on keeping it for a while, ESs are cheap enough where you can get one without having to go this route

 

Well this one is certainly NOT an obscene deal. This question truly comes from curiosity. I've got a long list ESs for sale to choose from that have clean titles. This listing is even more sketchy with the mileage discrepancy. I'm sure there is some guy out there who has gotten a good deal on a car w/ a salvage title.

Lots of different opinions and things to consider on this.

1. A salvage title makes for a smaller set of potential buyers when it is time to sell it because it scares many buyers
2. Not all insurance companies will insure salvage titled vehicles
3. Unless the person that repaired the vehicle is a trusted friend, you will probably never know the true story behind the repairs. If all it took was a new fender and paint, it would probably not be a salvage title. You should at least have a competent mechanic look it over for you. Sometimes shops will weld two halves of a car together: take a rear from a front collision & the front from a rear collision.
4. There are many things that can be "off" depending upon what was destroyed and repaired
5. Everyone probably has their own threshold for price too. If you are only saving a few thousand dollars, it is probably not justified financially.

I just Googled the VIN and found several things:

1. It sold for $3,300 at an auction [https://en.bidfax.info/lexus/es/6003...c2473046.html]
2. Listed at a dealer in VA for $10,950 [https://www.innovativeusedautos.com/...burg-va.shtml]. Based on other vehicles for sale, I would consider that a high price.
