Default What subwoofer to get. Replace the ML SUB

Hi guys. I have a 2007 Lexus es350 and my stock Mark Levinson subwoofer on the rear deck in shot and the cone is ripped. I wanted to know what kind you guys put in your es and something that fits right into the stock hole fixture. I was looking at the Kenwood Excelon XR-W804 and Kicker CompR 43CWR84 and Alpine S-W8D4. Someone let me know which one of these three are good and what you would recommend. These three are in my price budget as well. My budget is 95 to 130.

You need something not only the same size but the same ohm resistance and hopefully, efficiency rating in order for it to work properly. You need to find out the specs of the original woofer. Try some searching as it has been covered before and I suspect someone has researched this data.
In the alternative, you could look into a reconing kit for the ML woofer. Reconing is not that hard. I have done it on a pair of ancient NHT Zero speakers.

https://www.simplyspeakers.com/toyot...8m-toyota.html According to the folks at simply speakers with whom I chatted, this is the correct kit for your car. At $23, you should do it. Lots of youtube videos to learn from.

What would happen if I got one of the subs that I listed. Would it not work at all? And would it work with the factory amp?

What did you end up doing??

According to the supplied link [https://www.clublexus.com/forums/es-...ent-info.html], the OEM subwoofer has an impedance of 5.5 Ohms.

"Subwoofer (8", 5.5 ohms*) 86160-0WF70"

If you replace the OEM subwoofer with one that has a higher impedance [like 8 Ohms], it may not be as loud ....... but this may be somewhat offset if it has a higher efficiency. That link does not provide the OEM subwoofer's efficiency.

If you replace it with a subwoofer with a lower impedance, you risk blowing the OEM amplifier channel. You would probably be okay using a 4 Ohm subwoofer, but anything lower may blow the OEM amplifier.

The 3 sample subwoofers that you provided all look to be designed for a sealed or vented enclosure. If the OEM subwoofer just fires into the trunk space, that should be an "infinite baffle" design. However, you may or may not be able to hear a difference.
