Nah, it is still all original except for the rear stabilizer bar bushings... Everything eventually fails... My question is what is ahead for me in the >200K range...

I got my answer very quickly

Due to the exhaust leak, I stopped at the exhaust shop last night and found that one muffler has a tear in it from rust, and the second is on its way too. So need the whole section after the resonator - quoted a cool $1K+tax to replace the rear section and patch up some other areas...

In Canada, I cannot buy a used section at a wrecker due to the local laws on exhaust components and closest wrecker in US that has them is about 200 miles away (one way). Soooooo, tonight I plan to stop at a dealer and price out some new cars...

Well, here's how my reasoning went: it is $1050+tax for the exhaust job, $100ish for a battery, rust on trunk lid ($300ish) and with those $1.6~2K in repairs it is still a 12-year old car worth just as much as before the repairs. After these, what's next and how much? When I got stranded at the airport last week, it REALLY got me thinking...

I will likely have the following parts for sale to locals: winter OEM rubber floor mats with ES logo, brand new in wrap trunk carpet, used K&N panel filter, 1 new headlight D4S bulb, winter set of tires on OEM rims (driven 1 season), brand new v-belt, 12" sub and amp from Best Buy (I'll confirm the brand/model), I also have one used injector and front engine active mount (working fine)...

What are you thinking of as a replacement?

Two years ago I was in Europe and drove an Elantra GT coupe for like 2K miles, really liked the ride, good handling, comfy in long drives and quick. Then I wished that Toyota had something similar and to my delight they brought over the Auris as Corolla Hatch. So I test drove an XSE last night and loved it, and that will be my next ride.

My review of Corolla Hatch vs ES:
Engine noise is louder at high RPM, low/cruising RPM about the same
Handling much better - sportier ride, stiffer suspension, slimmer profile tires, wider stance vs overall width
Engine power feels the same (it comes with a 2.0L 170HP engine) hybrid-CVT with on-stg pedal shift
Other options: better audio system with 7" TFT, heated front and rear seats and stg wheel (big +++ for me in Canada), some build-in apps, BT audio
Bucket leather seats - adds to the sporty feel, I had to pad ES seats already once and still doesn't feel as good
Safety package latest gen (front radar, lane-keep, BSM, rear camera, hill assist, etc.)
Less luggage space - not a biggy for me since this is my daily commuter, we have a RAV4 for fam outings and trips that require lugg space
Better fuel mileage
LED lighting - long term less hassle in replacing bulbs
Cheaper maintenance costs down the road - parts are cheaper...

Thank you all for the feedback! Last night I traded in the ES for a Corolla Hatchback XSE

Bizarre thing was that the MIL came on the weekend, code was P0303, I cleared it and it stayed off. So the coil was likely on its way, and in 20K it was due for new plugs, so yeah...

I will post the left over parts for sale in the marketplace shortly...
