Default Replacement power steering pump #3

I am going in tomorrow for what I suspect will be my 3rd replacement power steering pump in last 6 months. Original was replaced due to leak and same with subsequent replacements. I suspect it is leaking again, but is also making that whirring/whining noise. They said noise should go away, but it has not. It has been more than a month. Probably bad decision but NOT Lexus dealer. FYI, just went over 100k. Is this normal?

I read somewhere that it’s possible to mistake power steering leak with timing gasket leak? Please advise.

Thanks in advance.

My Lexus dealer did a free inspection and told me the leak was timing cover with would cost up around $3500 to fix. I brought it to another independent car shop specialize for camry, honda and was told it was the power steering pump as well as the high pressure hose connected to it. For the pump, to lower the cost, he suggested not OEM but the high pressure hose it has to be OEM or he not doing it. He told me many problems related to non OEM pressure hose and it will be a wasted of his labor if something happens later. After that $950 fix, i haven't got any leak since then. It took his guy almost 5 hours to replace the p/s pump and hose, parts was about $400-500 so the money was well spent i think.

This is promising news! Although my Lexus dealer told me that too a while back....hmmmmm. They said “it didn’t need to be done right away”. I will call and discuss this with the mechanic. Thanks!!!!

You guys with timing cover leak, just try Valvoline or M1 high mileage.
