Right Axle
Guys , went into dealer last week for oil checkup was told i need to replace my right front axle(08 ES 350) which would cost $1200. Is it really this expensive to replace an axle?

If you have to have an OEM and don't want to go aftermarket you can go to MyLParts.Com get the right side axle I think its the same for 07 and 08 I looked for the one that's a 07 you can get it using the CL5 discount code for 442.00 to your front door
I think it's like a couple hours labor maybe 1.5 or 2.0 I forget maybe it off but I think that's what it is so like I'm guessing your dealer charges like 150 and hour labor in Florida usually at a Lexus dealer i used to live in south Florida so about 750.00 for OEM
or go to Rock auto and
get an aftermarket axle for around 100 bucks shipped and then 300 in labor if going to a dealer so 400 bucks.

What I did find odd is that the axle was throwing grease from the inner boot but there were no splits that we could find in it at all. I guess maybe it was coming from the clamped end of the boot... I don't know.

When I took my car in for the Takata airbag recall, I also was told by my local dealership that I needed to replace the right front axle. They quoted me $1,300!!! I ended up paying a mobile mechanic to replace it with an aftermarket part (it has warranty) right in my driveway for $210. I was afraid it would affect the ride quality being aftermarket but I haven't noticed any difference and my wallet is definitely happy!

I took mine back to the dealer and complained about it and found out the car was still under warranty as i had just bought it about 2 months ago so they fixed it. what i found strange is the quote was originally $1200 but when they had to pay to fix it themselves on the receipt i saw $700. i said to myself "Oh how quickly the price changed".

Did you buy the car from the Lexus dealer? That's great that you still have warranty on a 9 year old car! The pricing at Lexus dealerships is grossly inflated so I'm not surprised at all regarding the reduction in price. $700 is probably the true cost and the rest is just pure profit from suckers that pay it. Lol!

they probably used a aftermarket one or just replaced the boot
or if they did OEM parts
they may have just taken the axle out and replace the CV joint i belive that how the Factory warranty suggests fixing the issue if it sa CV axle and the price is like 700 or 800 i had that done once at the dealership back in march 2013 i think it was still under factory warranty and they replaced just the cv axle joint and boot
