Car will not start

I have a 2008 ES350. I drove my car twice this morning for 2 short distances in 2 short intervals (to drop my kids to school). I came back to drive the car a third time and it will not start. I initially was receiving the message that the key is not detected. After multiple tries there is no message or an occasional ! (exclamation mark). The power is on and the steering wheel adjusts as usual upon start. However the motor does not engage or even attempt to engage. Any ideas?

Try to press START button with your key.

make sure your foot is firmly pushing down on the brake pedal and the vehicle is completely in the park position. Those are the only two reason that I have ever had mine not start.

If it isn't detecting the key it sounds like the fob battery needs replacing. Thats why LjeksesES posted what he did. Its how you start the car when the fob battery is dead/low.

If your key fob battery is dead you need to hold the fob next to the start button while starting the car so it can be detected.

I doubt it but potentially the battery is dying in the key fob?

Not that anyone is wrong but I'm curious why everyone thinks it's the fob? If she has power and the steering wheel adjusts, wouldn't that indicate that the fob is communicating? When my fob went dead I couldn't do anything, much less have the steering wheel adjust. Thanks
