What year is the car, how old is the battery and how many miles on it? There may be more to the dead battery than you listening to the radio for a short time. That shouldn't run down a good battery.

Hopefully you'll be able to get things resolved and have confidence that the car will start.

People on this forum say four years is typically the dead battery scenario.

So they can measure voltage? Is that part of 30k maintenance schedule?

During an oil change at the dealer they do a multi-point inspection and one of the tests was the battery. They hooked it up to some sort of battery analyzer and it came back as "FAIL." (2008 with 85k miles and the battery seems perfectly fine while cranking the engine)

So while I'm waiting there the service guy comes over and shows me that it failed their test. I asked "so what exactly does this test measure and how would it know it has failed?" He couldn't really answer the question and just told me, "well it failed so we recommend a new battery." Um, well I think I'll wait.

This was last fall. The car sat outside all winter and if anyone remembers it was a freakin COLD Chicago winter last year. The car started every morning for me. A couple of mornings before I started the temps were like -15F and I was convinced that'd be the day that the car wouldn't start and that I pushed my luck.

So I still have the same battery today (94k miles) and it has yet to let me down. But I think I should just get myself a new battery before this winter for piece of mind.

What can I say, I think you've been VERY LUCKY! But, yes, I wouldn't push it!

I think on mine the charging voltage(?) was below 12 volts, that's why they replaced it. Since it costs me nothing, I can't imagine the dealer wanting to do it unless there was in fact something amiss.

my 13 ES350 has died 6 times since I purchased brand new in Sep 13. Replaced it with a new interstate per the dealer (live 250 miles away) and two weeks after the new battery is put in, the new battery is completely dead. Car sat for maybe 4 days in my garage. I live in Tx.

Currently at the dealer and they have no clue what's wrong. They said it will sit for 3-4 days and they will test it Monday! So frustrated!

That's a pain. Do you have any non-OEM accessories that might be causing the drain while the car is off? Maybe an alarm w/ remote start or something?

They might have to test each circuit to find the cause of the drain - pretty time consuming unfortunately.
