Planning on used 2010-2011 ES350
Hi guys, I am in for a new "used" car, so considering 2010-2011 ES350. . Main worry is the reliability of this car and the cost of issues.. So from experienced people here, how often and how bad were the issues you were experiencing with this particular year and model? Lots of complains that it is glorified camry.. didn't have camry before, but those who did, is that really true? I know they come from same base, but in terms of materials of steel used on body, and paint, I hope its not the same as camry..
The other choice of debate for me is 2010-2011 C300 MB.. which, imho, looks more stylish. I know theoretically it might be less reliable but I am not sure, any one who had experience with both would be nice for you to share some info. Thanks for the input! |

If you look at a reliable source like Consumer Reports, you'll find the 2010 and 2011 have very solid reliability in all areas. This comes from their annual Owner Surveys. I had a 2010 ES350 that had zero issues while I owned it. There are no guarantees, but either year will be a relatively safe bet. Yes, the ES is based on the Camry - Up to you to decide if that's a good or bad thing or a deal breaker.
And I noticed you said HAD Es 350.. were you on lease ? or just got bored? what did you get after. |
I have a 2010 purchased new and now has a little over 25,000 miles on it. It has been to the dealer once for it's first oil change . It has been a dull car for maintenance. In fact I am just starting to consider getting new tires. Solid reliable car as far as I am concerned.

I have an '07 purchased new with 140,000 miles. The car has had one issue that wasn't part of wear and tear - the oil hose burst. Lexus missed sending me the letter about it and I now have credit at the dealership which I may never use (I hate the Memphis dealership). Other than that, it's wear and tear items like tires, struts, etc or accidents like a new bumper (twice) and a new radiator (metal on the interstate).
I was able to compare it directly to a Camry since my niece drives one. Fit and finish is better. Much better in my opinion. Also being based on the Camry is a good thing. My local shop charges the same prices for my repairs as it would for a Camry. Their Toyota "expert" is also an expert on my car. |
I have a 2011 with 33k mi that I bought 7/12 with 11k. No issues at all - just normal maint (oil change, cabin filter). Put on new tires (Michelin MXV Primacy) when I got it, no problem in Minnesota winter or summer.
This is the quietest, most comfortable car I drove which is why I selected it (tested a dozen different brands before picking this). Also has the best view out the windows. The heated/cooled seats are ok, but I've seen better. Previous cars included Camry XLE, Tbird, Camaro, and Firebird. If your priority is comfort and quiet, this is a good choice. If it's resale, this is good choice. If it's most economical purchase or state of the art electronics or factory standard sound system, this isn't the car for you. BTW- paint quality is very very good, including by wheel wells; but it should be washed with a higher quality wash product and dry with microfiber towel. Nice wax on top and it looks fancy schmancy. |
Like jagtoes, my 2010 hasn't seen the dealer since the first oil change. Been the most reliable car we've ever owned. The paint looks new with no issues

Looking like a camry isn't the real problem, I just wonder if overall quality is better.. like better steel of panels, or , most importantly , paint..If paint is bad, or put on in very thin and few layers... I just really hate corrosion. Currently have mazda 3 2005, and this year is rotting through (mainly one of the few reasons for switching)

My 2011, bought new in 10/11 as a leftover, now has 15,000 miles. Normal maintenance, no issues for dealer to work on.

Thanks all you guys for the input . From the general impression you were all pretty happy which is good to hear . will need to go test drive it.

Hey just bought the 2010 with Navigation still under warranty back in February. Smooth ride and picked over the 2011 because it received a better overall rating.
