Default Tranny

Hi

I've noticed something very strange today with my Lexus. It was -8, in Toronto, and I had to start my car quickly and drive it. The engine was still cold, but I had to leave early. The odd thing which happened, is that after driving slowly and coming to a stop, for a stop sign, the car wouldn't go, though it was on drive. The car was still cold. It seemed, that the tranny wouldn't switch gears.
I brough the car to a total stop, and put it to a parking position, then drove again for a couple of feet, and the tranny wouldnt go again. I waited for the car to warm up a little bit, and the care drove normally after.
Is it normal like that? Do we have to wait for the car to warm up? Or there's something wrong with my Tranny.

Can anybody advice please.

Sounds to me like a low fluid condition; however if you're not leaking any - perhaps it's just a slight bit low?

Sam, that's not normal. -8 isn't that cold. I live in Ottawa and have driven my ES with little warm up with temperatures less than -20.

Sounds like mlacomb is on the right track with the fluid level diagnosis. What's the mileage on the car? Is it due for a transmission fluid change? I think it supposed to be done at 96,000 kms. It could be the cold weather is just aggravating an already existing condition.

Thanks Guys for your reply.
I did go to the Lexus dealer here in Toronto, he also said the same thing. I have another relative mine who actually is a mechanical engineer, but crazy about cars, and said the same thing.
I will be taking the car to replace the Tranny fluid this week.

Cheers
