Default Dealer loaner - impressed

So i dropped my GS off this morning at the dealership for some tlc... And got a 2012 es loaner. Everything seemed like what i would expect for the ES. Noticed the telescoping steering and seat buttons had a better range than my ole 98. The automatic sun shade dropping down in reverse was a nice touch.

So driving in the city streets it felt a little sluggish but very comfortable... Hopped on the highway and put the pedal down... Well well well... I broke a smile. I didnt expect to hear that lil growl and feel the ES pull away from the crowd with such ease. Very nice!

That's what I noticed about the ES as well, coming from a land yacht (Grand Marquis). The ES can be very subtle in it's application of power when using small amounts of throttle.

I think I suprised the saleswoman when we were driving - off a light turning left onto a freeway, in both cars (the ES I purchased and another "american" car) I floored the gas pedal to get a feel for the acceleration. I did NOT expect the front tires to light up.

In the past I owned a '95 Camaro Z28 (v8, 6 speed) and the ES is very close in power once you dig into the throttle, FWD / RWD differences aside. But the ES is much gentler on low throttle use, similar to the Grand Marquis.

This powertrain combo has been around for nearly 7 years, and is still class competitive in smoothness, performance and fuel efficiency.

They may need to do a little updating one if these model years though.
