Potentially Picking up a 2012
Back to the cheap point, we used to be a big Mercedes family. People on those forums would buy cars and most of the time, would opt for the car that was less, thinking that it was the better deal. in the end buying the cheaper car cost them more than what they would have paid to buy a better one. In this case lets say we bought the car from a private seller for $32k with no extended warranty. That is a reasonable price for a private sale right? Would you rather have paid just $2700 less for a car that had a warranty up to 40k miles, or $2700 more for a car from the dealer with a warranty up to 100k miles. You can't look at just the purchase price, but how much everything cost you, and what it will cost you. Again, I am not justifying anything as i wasn't the one who paid it, i am just curious as to how the transaction amounts were unreasonable. I would like to know how much YOU would have paid in the situation if you think that the dealership completely ****ed us on the purchase. ALSO back to the main point, the car itself, still wondering if anyone knows about the 16 inch wheels for the snow tires. i would assume they would work since people are running camry steelies for snows, but just want to make sure. ^^^^Yes, 16" wheels will work fine on your ES. However, I'd try to find Camery wheels on eBay or Craig's List. You want to keep the offsets correct and in my experience, OEM wheels in a situation like yours are just more reliable.

We can't value your trade in, but sounds that overall in your deal you got book retail price for each transaction. This is not too bad, but not great either, just a standard deal by the book.
Its a common trick dealers use to give more money for your trade-in, yet charge more for the car you are buying. When I see that, I ignore it and always tell them to go fu*ck themselves and give me best price on each transaction.

The stock wheels from an SC300 were 15". The SC400 came with 16" wheels however. I had an SC300 with a 5 speed and I put SC400 wheels on it. I'm not sure of the offsets, since the SC300 is a RWD, but they (16") should work just fine. 15" wheels will not.

I've repeatedly told you the value if the lx, at least 6 times. I got below the retail on the es350 if I applied the separate $2300. You went from saying that the deal was horrendous to saying it was ok, I think it's about time you admit you're wrong. You started the argument about the price for no reason I can see. I started this asking about the car itself.

Typically when someone gets "$2,300" in "discount" they reduce the sales price of what they paid by that amount. For instance I didn't get my GS for "MSRP and a $5,900 discount", I got it for $54k. Your way of describing it is very strange. You essentially paid $34,700 for the car, which is not getting screwed like $37k would have been, but certainly not a great deal IMHO.
As for the trade, "book value" is meaningless. You have to look at what comparable cars are selling for and then determine what a fair value is for your trade yourself. Wait and see what they list the LX for, I bet you'll be shocked.

I agree. Book is just a guideline. Good deal is when you buy the car bellow the book. Since all his transactions seem to be right at the book price, the deal is nothing special.
