Default Gas Door

I recently learned that I cannot open the door covering my gas cap through the button inside the car. I took my car to the dealership and was told that because my car is no longer under warranty that is would cost $512 to fix. Seriously? $500 bucks for the luxury of opening the door to fill my tank? This is obscene and falls under the category of price gouging. anyone have any bright ideas on how to get this fixed or at least compalin to the Lexus car company? I don't think I'll ever buy a Lexis again.

Obviously I have no idea what the actual issue with the door is but it might be worthwhile to read the topic about 10-15 down from yours titled access to 2008 gas door

Edit: Actually considering the price you were quoted I suppose it's not quite as simple as the problem and solution others have had. Sorry and good luck

You might check with a Toyota dealership, or an independent shop and see what they would charge. I'm sure you can get it fixed for less than the L dealer.

OTOH I don't think I'd rule out buying a brand of car because of a faulty gas door.
