I have an interesting situation at hand.

Needed winter tires for "new to me" 2010 Lexus es350 that I bought and found something interesting on kijiji. Dude was selling Toyota Camry mags and tire set. Mags were in almost new condition with Pirelli Ice zero fr tires. Tires have 8-9/32 left on them.

The set I got is 17x6.5j, 215x55x17 with an offset of 45. Bolt pattern and centre bore size is same as well. Lexus owner manual recommends a 17x7j wheel for 215x55x17 tires with an offset of 45. Everything else matches except for that "j" value. Which I learned is width of the wheel.

It was bit if a pickle because I checked online on wheel-size.com and it showed 7j for Camry wheels. I only noticed it when I was at the guy's place and it was time to pay.

Before making payment I called my mechanic, he showed some concern about it being bit thinner and then said it won't make much of a difference if everything else matches, especially if tires are same size and you need them just for the winters. Anyways I paid the guy and got the set.

Now I am second guessing my decision and thinking if that .5 inch difference in wheel width is going to affect the vehicle a lot. I live in Canada and we have winters for 8 months here. So car will have those wheels on 8 months out for 12.

I kinda like this new to me car and wanted to take care of it. Now I feel car won't handle well enough because of that difference and it will shorten its life and cause the things to breakdown sooner.

I am not looking for reassurance, I would really like to understand the implementations this .5inch difference in wheel size can have if any.

This resource in particular threw me off. Where this dude sounds like as if you are breaking a cardinal rule if you putting something that is not exactly same.

NeverthelessI loved the car so far even though I drove it about 50km so far on summer tires. I can only imagine how 2020 Lexus must drive.
