Should I get the extended warranty?

It will go to 7yr/100K mile warranty. What do you guys think?

They say it will be $1850 roughly.

If you are going to keep the car for any length of time and/or mileage, yes. If you decide to get rid of the car, they will refund the unused portion. Paid $1200 for mine and I used up $800 for the passenger side window dropping repair. They sent me a check for $300+ dollars when I traded it in. I came out essentially even but whi know what the future has in store for your car.

I think the decision process is a little more complicated than that. You have to remember that extended warranties are a cash cow for the companies that sell them. That's why everyone and their brother is pushing them hard and they'll sell you one no matter what. You have 75k miles and have been off warranty for over a year or more? No problem, they'll sell you an extended warranty.

Also, considering Lexus is a brand that is known for high quality, one can expect that you will not need many repairs up to 100k miles. So the real question is, in addition to whether you plan to keep it, do you expect you'll have enough break that you'll have to pay more than $1,850 between now and then? If yes, get maintenance. If no, you may want to pass. That said, there are those who like the piece of mind and they don't mind paying high dollars for that piece of mind, whether they ever use it or not.

If you are going to be keeping the car I would go for the platinum warranty but shop around a bit first for maybe a better price. There are a lot of things on your car that could make the warranty a good investment plus the peace of mind. Be sure the warranty covers electronics like navigation if you have it plus the usual mechanical items and then keep enjoying your car.

Consumer groups regularly show that extended warranties are not cost effective. As dman00001 pointed out, these cars are pretty reliable. Having said that, if in the unlikely event you do need a warranty repair, it's great to have as Lexus repairs are expensive.

I didn't get a warranty on my 2007 because it didn't cover enough mileage. I've nearly 122,000 miles on my car now and all that money would have been flushed down the drain (without a claim) when the warranty expired at 100,000 miles.

The cars now have modular parts and cannot be "fixed" with the small integral parts. The passenger windows that come out their track, for instance, the whole modular part includes the scissors track, glass and the infamous clip that holds everything together. Can't just buy that clip, must buy the whole enchilada, so to speak.
