how do you get it done? From what I can tell the dealer will turn your request down, and I would never go elsewhere for something important as transmission... especially if they don't how to do this complicated procedure or will use wrong ATF fluid.

Dealer, a trusted machanic or a transmission place.

The ppl outside the dealership have good info too from systems like all-data and snap-on shop key. I have access to both and all-data is very detailed. It comes down to who you trust.

I'm the opposite with the dealerships. I don't trust them with anything. I do mostly everything myself and have for years. If there's something I can't figure out or don't have time I have alot of trusted people I know in the business. I just can't stand that separation of talking to the guy working on my car and having to talk to a damned service writer BS. Even if some of them are hot little blondes . If the service writers don't drive the cars themselves and get involved then what use are they. They don't do that anymore and any of the dealerships around

Service writers are CLUELESS! The are not mechanics, usually have no idea about cars, and are only there in that position because they can be nice to people. NEVER listen to what they say. Do what the last poster said, ask around and find someone you trust.

If you want to have a technical question answered then tell (nicely) the service writer that you'd like to talk to the shop foreman or one of the lead mechanics. A reputable (and smart) dealership will have no trouble with this. If they balk......then move on. And don't forget.......that the only person that is LESS knowledgeable than a service writer is usually the Service Manager!

I've found that service writers and service managers are just like any other job. Some good, some bad and some mediocre. They're not all bad and not all good. You meet all kinds and live and learn.
