The only thing I've read is not to exceed your states tint laws and if you have a black interior, to really not exceed them. Numerous pull overs by the state police can happen.

Very good point. If the OP does a search there is a lot of information on the legal tint levels by state.

I recently had my windows tinted and went one level lighter than legal just for the reasons you mentioned. I don't need/want the hassle.

I did have my daughter's 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee front windows tinted the same level as the factory rear windows. Was advised by the tinter that it exceeded PA state tint levels but did anyway. Never got pulled over for the tint level. But would I do it that deep again, probably not.

The laws can be weird. I think in IL if a vehicle like a minivan or SUV has factory tint on the back windows (usually pretty dark) that no tint is even allowed on the front doors - something like that.

Having it dark all around on my wife's Highlander would look pretty sweet - but she doesn't even care.. so oh well.

Still been meaning to get my ES done at the legal state limit all around (except windshield) which is 35%. I've seen that level of tint on a friends car but they had black interior.. with my light gray interior I'm thinking it might not have the same effect.

Reason we did it was that my daughter was going to school in Cleveland, living alone and I thought that if the "bad guys" could not see in and see her alone, then, hence, they would not follow her to her apartment or anywhere else.

I'm in IL too and went 40% all around (except the windshields) on both of our cars. With the parchment (tan) interior the windows look pretty good IMO but not too dark. Some might want a darker look though.

Usually 35% is the legal limit for the front. The rear windows usually don't have a limit. Im thinking about 35% for front and 20% for back.

True - you can usually go darker on the back windows. I personally like to have them all the same though.
