Updating GPS Maps in 2008 ES350
My local Lexus Dealer has informed me that to up date my GPS Maps is a "Dealer required" job and at a cost of $250 + tax! This seems expensive to me, but I don't know what, if anything truly difficult, is involved.
Is there anyway I can do this updating myself, and if so, where do I get the new Map disc and can anyone guide me on this exercise?

Buy the updated disk. Sewell Lexus usually has the best price. But it's still way too pricey.
Remove the horizonal plastic LEXUS trim below your NAV screen by just sliding it up and out. I found thumbnails underneath work well.
Eject the map CD using the eject map button on the screen (menu button, map DVD button).
Out comes the old map CD. Just insert the new one and replace the plastic trim. That's it.
My Lexus dealer offered to install the CD for me for $60. Wow.

I agree with Dreyfus. I have updated my Nav system for the last two years myself. It truly is easy and is not worth spending any money at your dealer's. B-T-W. My nav system is in a 2008 ES350 also.

When I bought my 2008 at the dealer 3 months ago, I told them I wanted a 10.1 DVD update install thrown in the deal. They did and gave me the zero receipt. But the 'big' guy complained that I sure got a good deal because the salesman didn't know it cost $200. SO, if you ever update your car, put that in the deal also. Maybe your salesman doesn't know the cost either !!

Many thanks, gentlemen, and I have completed the update exercise myself, as you directed! Thanks for the help and I look forward to being an active member of this group!

Nav Update
For anyone else looking to update their Nav system.
Here is the Lexus Navigation web page.
http://www.lexusnavigation.com/what_to_order.php
It has the numbers for the update.
Also if you can do without the newest update. Wait a couple of weeks. With the new update coming out this month. You will see last years discs for sale on eBay for about 25 dollars.

Wow! You just saved me a lot of $$!
Thank YOu so much! I've just tried it and worked perfectly. I've ordered the 2012 DVD at Ioffer.com for $60 bucks and I'm waiting for it by mail.
