Michelin Primacy MXV4 vs. Goodyear ComforTred
 

Time to replace my four Michelin Energy MXV4's on my 2007. Not too pleased with the noise level, although they lasted about 48K and handled ok.

I have decided to go with either the Michelin Primacy MXV4's or Goodyear Assurance ComforTreds Touring (phew!). There are many posts on tire choices, but none specifically compare these two.

Have you tried both Michelin Primacy MXV4's, and Goodyear Assurance ComforTred Touring tires? Both have superlative reviews, and are similarly priced. It's time for me to choose between these two.

I hope for a quieter tire that will handle well in rainy Seattle. Which one?

However, when it's time to retire my wife's ES, I'll be going with the Michelin Primacy MXV4 H rated tire.

I haven't tried both but I love the MXV4 tires on my ES 350. They are nice.

I'm completely satisfied with the performance of the Michelin Primacy MXV4's on my ES 350.

I bought the Bridgestone Serenities and didn't like them. They didn't last and they were noisy. This was a huge disappointment since they are so well rated. Replaced them 10K ago with the Michelin Primacies. I like them much better. Can't speak to the Goodyear's though.

Why even consider another tire when this one is so highly recommended by everyone who has put them on their ES?

I do lean towards the Michelin's. However, I was surprised to see that the Goodyear's were rated as quieter by users on tirerack.com. Also, the ComforTred's are a little less expensive than the Primacy's.

As nobody here has driven both Primacy's & Goodyear's, and are pleased with their Primacy's, it seems that the Michelin Primacy's MXV4 is the way to go.

I had all 4 Assurance Comfortreds 225-55-17's (Merc Villager) replaced under Discount Tires replacement warranty because they went out of round after a couple of years. Of the 4 new ones, two of those were replaced later for the same reason. They were great at first but every 5,000 mile I'd have them rotated and rebalanced and the weights would be moved all over from before to get them rebalanced.
Now to be fair. There is a new model of these out that is re-enginered...so I'm told. I also ran them on my '94 ES300 in a 15", 70 series and never had a problem. It seems it's in the wider/lower profiles where they had problems........ in the original series. I have no experience with the new series.
I switched (Discount made me a trade in deal when replacement tire #3 was found bad) to Michelin Primacy MXV4's (not Energy which rates down futher on the list..see below) on the van and it been a dream ever since. I should not have experimented away from Michelins....lesson learned. I drive a lot of freeway miles (40,000+ per year) and am very fussy about noise. I run snowtires in the winter (Michelin Xi2's) and want quiet summer tires on the summer wheels.
I have a relative in the business and he said the Comfortreds were problem tires for them.

I just purchased a set of the goodyear assurance comfort tred at 60k, now has 66k..very please with ride, handling and noise level.This tire is rated at 70,000 miles and were $280 cheaper then the Michelins..... Original set of michelin lasted 26k, next set of goodyear touring (not assurance comfort tred) lasted 34k...I highly recommend the Goodyear Assurance comfort tred over the Michelin Primacy MXV4's mainly due to treadwear rating,handling and price.........Also, Goodyear makes a Comfort tred and an Assurance comfort tred,..Do confuse the two when buying tires.......

I went ahead and purchased the Michelins. They are certainly quiet, and seem to handle well so far. I'll see how tread ware is down the line.

hopefully, we will both win...U with the Nichelin and me with the Goodyear assurance comfort tred....My experience with tires is that even the best rated tires can develop pbs like belt separation etc..Let me know in 10k or so how the michelin tire works for you...I will do the same HAVE A GREAT NIGHT
