Floor mat to protect your original ES350' mats

There are the factory rubber mats and then there are aftermarket custom fit mats, such as Weathertech custom fit. DO NOT buy cheap $19.95 generic 'will fit any vehicle' mats at the local auto parts store.

The use of mats to protect the mats is the most frequent cause of unintended acceleration problems. There are some respectable aftermarket mats but they are not cheap and you might be better off just buying an extra set of Lexus mats on ebay. I got a never used set for $100 some time ago and now have good weather and bad weather mats. I got all four but never do anthing with the rear mats.
When I got my ES service last week - I declined the brake pedal mod for now - the service tech told me he was amazed at how many cars come in with 2 and even three sets of front mats. If nothing else I think it just looks bad.

No offense, but a mat is supposed to protect the floor from wear and dirt. It is removable, washable and replaceable. Buying a mat to protect a mat is a bit like buying a bigger briefcase to protect your briefcase.
Why not just not protect the mats, and when they look dirty have them cleaned. When they look worn, buy a new set. They're not expensive.

With the light colored interiors, the carpet mats gets dirty in a week. I purchased the clear Exact mats that go over the OEM carpet mats. They have docking holes in the same place as the carpet mats and I have never experienced them riding up to interfere with the gas pedal in the 4+ years I have had them. My original mats look factory clean with no wear / just the extreme sides needing cleaning.

I think it's best to buy the Clear Mats and put it on top of the OEM carpet mats. You can wash the clear plastic mats, I seen it on someone's Lexus, looks nice.

Or you can do what Lexus themselves did on the 2009s which is put gray carpet mats in the cashmere interior cars. The gray matches the darker dash trim and the contrast looks really good. Our ES350 has this setup.

If you do this it is key to get the Exact mats which attach to the OEM carpet hooks to prevent them moving around. Otherwise you are asking for unintended acceleration by stacking mats.

You can always then put in all weather mats and leave the carpet mats at home.

We have the dark gray mats in our '10 ES with parchment interior and personally I like the look and contrast. Our '07 had the gray interior and as garsarno said that light color was dirty within a week. Some think the new mats look wierd though. I still have my all weather mats in, but will be switching them out any day now.

My parents, grand parents and aunts did too. So thats where I got it from....LOL...
When traveling, when I hang clothes off the hook, they are in the drycleaner plastic bag.
WOW - plastic phobia at it's best.
BTW - I sell PVC edgebanding. That's really where I get the "plastic world".
