Is purchasing 2007 ES 350 Ultra + nav/lev asking for trouble?

I've been reading about all of the troubles folks have encountered with the 2007's and its got me worried about a purchase I've been thinking about.

What do you guys think? Better to get a 2006 for fewer $ or a 2008 and pay a little more?

I've had my '07 for a little over 3 1/2 years (4/06 build) and have had zero problems. No warranty work no TSIB's, no rattles or creaks. So no complaints here. Yes some cars had/have prblems but keep in mind something over 250K current gen ES's have been sold. Overall they are pretty reliable IMO. I recently drove an '09 loaner while mine was in for the 3yr/36k service and didn't notice any differencce between that car and mine. Good luck with your decision.

I just bought my Ultra off lease and also purchased the Lexus Platinum Extended Warranty that covers everything until 10/2013. Just in case............

The problems I have had were transmission replacement in the first few months of ownership in late 2006, the diesel engine tick when cold that I have learned to live with and premature rear brake pad replacement this summer under TSB warranty replacement. Just normal service and tire replacement.

The 2006 is an ES330 and you are definitely buying a better car with the ES350.

I've had mine since July of 2006. The dealership has fixed some creaks and rattles and run a TSIB on the brakes.

I've over 67,000 miles on my car now and absolutely love it. The power, the gas mileage, the luxury, and ride make it the greatest value for your dollar on the market.

There were quite a few transmission flare issues with this model year so you do want to ask about the history of the car you're wanting to purchase.

I'd have no qualms about buying one today.

I bought this model (3/07 build) in May of 2007. I've heard a slight rattle in the dash on cold mornings. I've also experienced an odd shift when trying to accelerate rapidly after much slow driving in heavy traffic. After reading this forum, I watch out for these issues, but overall, I'm happy with the car. I really like the ML stereo and the glass roof.

Thanks for the replies, guys! I'm feeling better about this.

Edit: I'm not familiar with the term "flare" as applied to a car transmission. Could you explain please?
