Can you shift to N while the car is in motion on the ES models?

Of course. I do it all the time to save gas.

Putting the car in neutral is the easiest and fastest way to end the danger of any sudden acceleration. I have a hard time understanding how the trained cop driving in that terrible accident failed to implement this simple life-saving action.

Having sudden accelleration AND a failure of the shifting mechanism at the same time would be, beside incredibly unlikely, a nightmare. At that point I'd stand on the brakes and press the engine shutoff button for three seconds - something I've done before just to test it (button push).

Still no findings on this tragic accident. I hope we'll find out soon what caused this.

I just picked up an '10 a couple last week and wanted a set of Lexus all weather mats to be thrown in my deal. The dealer said the recall prevents that.
So,I ordered a set from Weathertech.I went to put them in and the driver's side factory mats were attached to the seat hold downs and both sides along with plastic ties. Also the floor anchors were holding the mats. .

I've seen more Lamborghini's and Ferrari's burn up than I hear of Toyota's with unintended acceleration.

RIP Ofc Saylor and his family.

This is what I was afraid of. Especially if they finally prove it was the mats. Toyota will have to put everyone at ease with a solution that puts the ball back in the owners court. You break the ties, you take all the risk. It's always litigated overkill instead of people being told not to put all weather mats on top of the standard lexus floor mat. People tell you not to run through a stop sign. What's next? Gates?

So true.
This incident is not Toyota's fault if the car had mats over mats.
I really wanted the Lexus all weather mats and because of the incident, the mats can't be purchased.
The Weathertech's aren't a perfect fit,not bad but not perfect. No holes for the floor anchors too.
I'm surprised at Weathertech. They've always had perfect fit mats in the past.

I looked at my '07 Impala's carpet mat hooks. No way can you attach the Chevrolet OEM all weather mats over the hooks if you have the OEM carpet mats in place. And the hooks are non removeable. I remember now that the IS250 AWD loaner had the carpet mats installed upside down. Thought it was odd but figured the dealer did not want the carpet mats sullied by the loanees.

That is an excellent point. Try putting the all weather mats on the hooks over the standard mat. Can't do it. So obviously the mats were not installed correctly. If what we hear is true and the dealer did this on a loaner they deserve whatever happens to them. The notice on that came out a long time ago. I also agree that the 250 mats were probably upside down to protect them.
