Hi all,
I have an unusual issue with the drivers side headlight. I recently got a used 2008 ES350 and the drivers side headlight aims high and dazzles oncoming traffic. I have adjusted the two screw adjusters their full range but cannot get the light to aim horizontally. The lights are HID AFS. The car was in a previous accident and the front drivers side wing was repaired. I have a feeling the body shop did not do a great job (the paintwork is not great) and the light may not be mounted at the correct angle. The AFS works fine for the LH headlight but I dont see much movement of the RH light? Perhaps they installed a non AFS unit during the repair. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions how to check the alignment of the headlight assembly and body work, and how to correct the headlight problem if the screw adjusters don't move the beam. I have searched some related threads but did not see this particular problem.

you can check what our adjustment is using this. do you get any codes as the headlight leveling motor etc will throw codes if thhey malfunction

Thanks for the adjustment guide. I was checking the lights today while driving and the RH headlight was moving vertically when I accelerated and horizontally when cornering. So the AFS seems to be working but the light is aiming high. I was not able to bring it down using the screw adjusters. That makes me think the headlight assembly is not quite mounted right, perhaps due to the accident repair. Can the reflectors be adjusted independent of the screws? Or can the set position of the AFS motor be changed?

So when you first use screw A to adjust high beam up or down, what happens on your vehicle light? Does it go up and down? Are you saying that it goes up and down but even at its lowest point its above the cutoff point.

Hi nevernu, thanks for the help. I figured out the problem after taking the headlight assembly out. When I removed the AFS motor I noticed that the ball on the head of the shaft was not clipped to the reflector. So the reflector would rest against the motor and would move slightly. When I pushed the ball into the clip it brought the aim down to the same level as the other light. Everything is working fine. I guess the headlight was not installed correctly after the body repair.
