I thought about just buying the driver one and keep it in the attic until that one breaks as a precaution.
Do you mind providing details on which part you purchased and instructions for fixing the problem?

I bought my replacement glass off of ebay. Shipping was great (well packed, arrived quickly) and it fit perfectly. Window is still working w/o issue after 3 years installed.
As far as directions, I have the Haynes manual for this car which describes in detail how to remove the panel and glass (more direction than I could provide here). Amazon sells the book for about $21 and it is worth it. Good luck!

This just happened to me yesterday and I freaked out. Does anyone know if it's a mm easy cheap fix or will it cost me an arm and a leg? I just bought the car about 6 weeks ago and I'm really hoping I don't have to spend tons of money to fix this. :-(

If your window makes loud noises when openning and closing, you should take it in. That is the precursor to it fully coming off track.

This is EXACTLY what happened to mine yesterday. I thought it was going to literally fall out after it popped about 2-3" up and out of the track. My husband had to gently ease it back in and now the lights on the window switches are flashing and the driver side switch for the passenger front window will not work.

I wanted to know if this is a common problem? I looked and looked but just see the transmission flare issues. I like the ES350 and the general direction Lexus is going in terms of design, etc., but that really is dissapointing for a brand new Lexus with less than 5,000 miles on it. The window is being repaired under warranty and re-tinted.

Common problem on the 07 and 08 es350. This is a design defect.. Two plastic tabs are built into the glass. The plastic will crack and the window will make a popping sound prior to coming off track. This happened to me in 2011 and the dealer wanted $660 to replace.. Went to an auto glass shop and had it replaced with an aftermarket glass for $220 (has a lifetime warranty). The pinch protector has to be reset manually, which is easy. Directions on how to reset the pinch protector are available on the internet.. Have to take off the door panel to unplug and re plug the window motor. Hope this helps

Hope it won't keep happening if I get it fixed. Such a bummer. I only bought this car about 1 month ago and it's really frustrating to have something so expensive go bad so soon with it.

The same thing happened to me and I opened the panel to find the plastic tab broken. I used super glue to glue it all together and it worked for about a year. One day when it was -40°C I tried to open the door and the tab broke again. I'll probably re-open it up and superglue it again.Has anyone else did something similar? Did you find any other way of reinforcing the strength of the plastic? I read somewhere that someone got rid of the plastic and replaced it with an aluminum tab instead. I don't recall where I read that though.I've also measured all the dimensions of the tab the last time I opened up the panel. I should be able to 3D print it if I chose to but I have doubts the strength of printed material is as strong as the original plastic. It's probably better to have it machined in aluminum...

Default Lexus rocks!!!

I cannot believe it but Lexus covered the cost of parts for me on this. The quote was $850 (discounted to $580 by my dealer) and I ended up only paying labor of $125. I am so pleased with Lexus it not even funny. My car is 10 years old and has 108,000 miles so I was not expecting any help with this. So happy!

Sorry to bump such an old thread...not trying to spam or anything.

This is probably the most-viewed thread on this problem on the internet. I'm a little late to the party, but this issue still affects a lot of cars and most dealers aren't helping much with the costs anymore.

I've designed and manufactured an aluminum replacement for this. I sell a kit that comes with everything you need to do the repair, including a tube of application-specific 3M adhesive and detailed instructions. Check out my website for more information. If you're a Club Lexus member, PM me for a discount.

This is how REPUTABLE auto designers operate. This basically lasts forever. Lexus and some low reliability US manufacturers figured out they can save $4.00 per window by gluing plastic tabs onto the glass and mounting the regulators thru these tabs. They also use less glass. The etching compound used to prep the glass to the tab can react with the plastic tab causing the plastic to get brittle and break over time. And/or the plastic tab is formulated with insufficient plasticizer (expensive part of the plastic formulation) which also causes the plastic to get brittle and break. You would think that when you buy a premium car you would get the best design but we got the worst design from Lexus. They are not about to fix all these defective vehicles at $2000 per copy. Our only recourse is to file a complaint at www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov. The government forced Toyota to do a recall in 2008 for a similar problem on bad window connections on Corollas and Matrix. See NHTSA Campaign 08V162000. Signed Materials Engineer.
For some reason page 5 of this thread, and this post in particular, comes up first in nearly every organic search I do for this problem, so I'll just point out again like I did in my how-to thread, that as the Quality Manager at a glass company, I can tell you that putting holes in a moving piece of glass is generally something designers try to avoid. A hole in glass is essentially a planned/controlled defect, and a hole that close to the edge of a piece of glass...especially attached to a moving assembly...is a break just waiting to happen. Also water-jetting glass is not the preferred operation for making holes. It causes too much chipping and flaking and can even break the glass.

I could be thinking of something else, but I believe that mid- to late-90's GMs liked to do this and suffered from a fair amount of failures. For some reason I'm picturing that awful Z24 Cavalier turd.

So for anyone reading this thread all these years later...don't leave here thinking that you should waterjet holes in glass. There's generally nothing wrong with plastic clips and definitely nothing wrong with adhering clips of any material to glass. This is good engineering and good accounting as well

The passenger window on my 2008 ES 350 had been a problem for months so I finally took it to my trusty Japanese Import specialist. He had to pull off the door panel to check it out -- at a cost of $60. He found the problem to be a broken window clip. Unfortunately, the clips aren't sold separately and come as part of the window glass assembly. The dealer wanted $519.00 for the glass assembly. However, the technician said he could get a used one for half the price. Turned out the technician's parts source sent over a brand new Lexus front passenger window glass because that particular glass was overstocked! The technician waived the $60 diagnostic fee (I'm a regular customer) and charged $95 to replace the glass. I remember reading a post from one of the forum members about selling the clips. Since this is a fairly common problem you'd think Lexus would take some action to address it. Guess that's just wishful thinking!
