Key Fob Battery

Yesterday I couldn't lock the door by pressing the button on the door handle, and need to use the lock button on the key fob. My guess is that the battery is running low, since it works fine if I carry the other key fob.

Replacing the lithium battery is no big deal, but I am a little surprised that it lasts less than 2 years. Any of you have similar experience?

Yes, I've been having the same issue lately. Sometimes when I'm inside the car, the warning message would tell me that it can't even detect the key!

I'll probably replace the battery soon too.

Nothing on mine yet - but what # battery?

Man how time flies. I'm two years this month! So, I will add a new battery to my need for a new inspection sticker. Thanks for the reminder.

I saw the battery number posted in another thread, but if someone could repost it would be nice. Thanks.

It is a lithium battery - CR-1632

I'll be replacing mine soon too.

Sounds like the life time of ~2 years is "normal" for the key fob battery since some of you have similar issue. I was hoping for a bit longer. The remote keyless entry for my Honda Pilot is still using the original battery after 5 years. I think this is something Lexus should improve even though their key fob does more functionally than the traditional remote key.

CR1632 costs $5 at Radio Shack. Found a couple of web sites offering $7 for two including shipping. Lexus probably will charge for $10-20 each.

2+ years here and the battery is still working. I don't remember the last time I had to change the battery in a key fob.

Good info on Radio Shack @ $5.

Check out Amazon. I have copied a post where the battery is under $2.

My battery died last month from my Aug 06 delivery. Luckily I still had the backup to get it to the parts dept. Pretty disappointed with the battery life, considering how infrequently it's used.

PS. Lexus will replace at no-charge. You shouldn't have to go out and purchase the thing.

how infrequently it's used? Perhaps you don't understand its function...it's always on. How do you think the car knows you're there?

if you read your owners manual it explains that the battery will have a few year life span and that cell phones in the proximity will shorten the battery life as the fob tries to respond to phone signals just as it communicates with the car. i found inexpensive replacements at a local interstate battery store for under $3
