Custom Rims
I was wondering if there are any owners have changed their rims, and if you have, what sizes have you gone with. I really would like to change my rims, I have a black on black car (yes I have heard every negative in the book, but I couldnt help myself once I laid eyes on her), and I want to get some black/chrome rims for her. But I really do not want to spoil the nice ride, pretty much the reason I went with a lexus in the first place. Just wondering if there are any drivers that ventured into either 18, 19 or 20 inch rims. I am looking at some 19's with a 235/40 size tire, but I am not sure if it will even fit in the wheel well, any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

though i am not familiar with the newer platforms, i have my 97 es300 on 19s. i personally think for your car, it shouldnt be any smaller than 18s just because your wheel wells are so big. and as for comfort, tire size and brand has a big affect on ride quality and noise comfort levels. maybe someone else familiar can help you. if you want more comfort you should go with a larger aspect ratio. ie, 215/35/19 and 215/40/19. the middle set of number is how tall the tire will be percentage wise against the tread width(first set of numbers). so the 215/40/19 will have a taller side wall, meaning more comfort.

mmmm finally a fellow enthusiast who wants to upgrade. Check out this photoshop that Seize kindly did for me
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=319574 I plan on getting 19's and getting a suspension kit in 2 years or so, or whenever the OEM all seasons are done (Use the stock 17" as winters and 19"s for winter) I haven't seen much colour coordinated cars that are dark grey...i want that look though, although i am praying i dont get sick of it eventually. I love the black on black look...go for it! i was gonna do that with my mom's E320. And yeah there's a guy on cardomain.com that has 19's....and a few too many with 22's IMO. |
right on
thanks for the reply guys. By the way, charcoal greys look pretty sweet. The stock 17's look ok, but they just look way too small for the wheel well. I would like to know the limits, i mean how wide a tire can be without it hitting the fender, things like that. The guy that tinted my windows, he has a 2008 gs, and in talking to him, he was thinking of going with 22's but the tire size would have to have been a 25 series, way to thin. I just really don't want to lose that smoothness. I was thinking of getting 19's with a 245/40/R19 tire, The overall width seems similar to the stock about 2% difference. I'm just wondering if the tire is too wide, since it comes with 215's. I'll be sure to get some pics up, just go the windows tinted and man it looks nice, but you kind of need it anyways with a black on black car, since it gets too damn hot. Post some pics if you finally get the tires you want. I'm also waiting to run these stock tires bald before i make any moves.

ok, thanks for the tips on the car domain, i gotta tell you, I don't like the 22's on the car.. looks.. well it looks to clownish to be honest, I think 20's would be a perfect fit for the es350, but im still tripping about keeping the smooth ride, i might try some out to see what its like. |

hey man, i've been tryna find other es owners who wanna get custom rims. Ive been looking everywhere to find tips and advice but haven't had too much luck. I called the lex dealer and they said 255 is the largets but i'm not too sure how wide it can go. i'm tryna get 255 35 9.5 20's. sevas forged r77 makes a sick wheel.

Sevas? i looked them up i like the R22s, never heard of them though. I would love 20's, but i think 19's with a lower suspension would be more ideal for what i want. and prices for tires for 19's are already high enough for me and will go through them fast enough. 20's would magnify costs more. |
R77
they are R77 they are pretty sick rims.

I recently put a set of SSR GT10s 18x8 41 offset wrapped in a 235/45/18 tire. Stickier rubber a shorter sidewall and a lightweight rim have noticeably helped handling and acceleration.
If someone is willing to host the pictures I can forward some along. |

Here you Go...
20" MRR HR-4 Diamond Cut 245/35/20 Not lowered...thought about it. I had problems locating springs and when I go over dips at speed, wheels can rub the wells. So, I am not inclined to lower - unless I change the suspension completely - yeah right! Jason |

nice what width you got there man? i ordered 8.5 but do you know if 9 will work? mind taking a shot from the rear?
|
looks really nice man, was wondering if u have tried driving with a full car of 5 adults? cuz with our soft suspension i hope it doesn't rub a lot more?
also with 35 profile tires, is the ride a lot more harsh? p.s. is that a lip spoiler on the trunk i see? beautiful 20% tint? |
Thanks for the kind words.
I will have a shot of the rear ASAP - but I am thinking I have 9. Yes, I have had the car full of adults. The rubbing is mild, but I can kind of guess when it will happen. I don't consider it a problem and I did not have to change the way I drive. In other words, it is not like I have to slow down for gutters - I think they rubbed maybe less than 5 times, and I have had the car now for 5k miles..or since August Yes, I do have a spoiler as well.
