Default Home Link Interior lights

I have not been able to find out how to illuminate the Home Link buttons . I looked through the owner's manual but I must have missed it.

Unfortunately you can't. There's no way to illuminate them. When I got my car in early May '06, I asked if there were any plans to backlight the buttons and they said no. I placed a small self-adhesive clear plastic bumper (the type used on the back of picture frames to protect the wall) on the button that I use for our garage door. It works well and isn't too noticable. I was going to remove it when I got familiar with the location of hte button, but have left it on, since it makes it easy to find in the dark.

It is a design "miss". The longer you own the car, the more easily it will be to find the switch in the dark.

It is a real design oversight and after 10 months I still have trouble finding the correct button more often then I thought I would.

This came up about a year or longer ago. I solved the problem with one of those tiny high intensity LED flashlights attached to the inner lid of the cup holder with a bit of industrial strength velcro. I focused it on the overhead console and it has a narrow enough beam to be useful and not blinding. It is so small that it does not interfere with the utility of the cup holder and because I rarely drive at night, very useful in helping me find the button. Simple, cheap and low tech fix. Also, I always have a little flashlight within reach regardless of the battery status of the car.
