Turning off Day time running lights
 

Is there a way to turn off the running lights on these cars?
Even when I am in park some of the exterior lights are still on.

The daytime running lights can be turned off by your dealer through the Lexus Personalized Settings procedure. That is after they tell you it is illegal to do so which it is not as they are not a U S requirement. I don't like DRL's and had mine turned off within the first week.

The same goes for the seat belt warning buzzer. Seat belts usage is required in most states and of course should always be used but I'm not aware of any requirement for the buzzer. The seat belt light does continue to work without the buzzer.

Indeed! I had my belt and DRL disabled as soon as I got my car. Another reason you'll want to disable your DRL (other than just preference) is that with the light constaly on, the tip of your bulb will gradually turn a brownish color and then making the surrounding reflector look really dull. Its just odd and ugly looking in my opinion.

It's not in Lexus Personalized Settings, it's by Lexus Scan.

Some of the douchebag service managers (namely in NJ) refuse to do it and claim that it's illegal. While this is infuriating, it wasn't worth making a scene about. I would also liked to have had the seatbelt chime disabled, but that didn't really work out for me either.

I've tried to get these idiots to turn off my seatbelt chime several times.

All I get back is either (a) a puzzled look with a follow-up that this can't be done or (b) "maybe we could do it but we can't anyway because it's a federal law," blah, blah, blah.

Between this and the truly idiotic "I agree" every time you start the car on the Nav screen I keep thinking all lawyers should be drowned in a sea of their own useless lawsuits.

I'm guessing that all of the useless lawsuits are the main reason some dealerships don't want to turn off DRL's or seatbelt chmes. It's more of a liability aversion than any legal issues. Somewhere along the line, if it hasn't been done already, a dealership would be sued if there was an accident and a driver or victim was looking for someone to blame.
