Ruined Rim
 

I had a really (*@#$@ day today. I accidently smashed my rear right rim into the curb while I was making this turn into a small street. However, stupid construction workers put huge cones in the CENTER of the road that says "local traffic only." I cleared the cone and the parked cars on the side, however, my rear right wheel hit the curb :cry: :cry: Now, I have several chunks of my rim missing and it's basically scratched all over. Does anyone know how much a new rim cost?

Ouch! I don't know what an OEM rim costs but do you have a full size spare? If the damaged rim can still hold air use it as a spare and put the spare on. Make sure the sidewall isn't damaged.

Yep, full size spare is a saver! I scratched my ES350 front rim last year, and had dealership replace it with a spare. They told me originally it will be $20 for the labor and than even waived the fee. Just make sure if you do that, TP (tire pressure) monitor is reset.

I just saw one on ebay around $100 plus shipping. Not too bad for a new perfect rim.

Or time to upgrade to aftermarket rims!!

Depending on how bad it is, some wheels can be repaired for a fraction of the cost of a new one.

I think I'll just leave it for now...since it's not too visible unless you look at it closely. I doubt I can repair the rim because it has two chunks at the edge missing :(

Sliding a rim across the curb at 30km/h does a lot of damage....:egads:

Was quoted $150 to repair the UL Graphite wheel from the dealer. The "wonderful" wheel / tire insurance that the dealership sold my wife on (over my objections) doesn't cover wheel curb rash. I told her that the $600 insurance would be better spent on e-bay for a new wheel if needed.

If I were you I would deal with the rim now.
I can't see how that rim is still properly balanced.
Could wear that one tire and you will eventually need to replace the two (front or back). The vibration can also effect the alignment etc.
You know you'll eventually do something about it. Why not now and possibly save additional dollars.

I tested the car's alignment and it seems to be fine and there are no vibrations when I travel done the highway. But I think I'll just bring it down to the dealer to check just incase. :thumbup:

IMHO--I personally would not have any rim repaired that has "several chunks" missing...especially if the damage is anywhere near the edge of the wheel itself.
