Okay, got the new car and my local dealership (not where I originally bought the car from). The selling dealership put the antenna on the outside, on the trunk lid. The new dealership put the antenna on the inside back deck.

Now, it looks nicer since you don’t see the antenna but it seems that I am having some spotty reception where I did not have that before when it was on the outside.

Anyone out there able to say if one is better than the other? If it is true that the antenna being outside will keep the reception consistent, then I would get it moved.

Yes, having it on the trunk lid will give you more consistent reception. I've only had mine for a couple of weeks but the XM reception with the antenna on the trunk is just as good as my old Maxima with the antenna on the roof.

Mine is on the outside, works great...just as my previous Acura TL, which had the antenna on the roof. If you don't mind the way it looks, have it moved for better reception

I have Sirius and where I am in California the antenna on the inside had too many dropouts for my taste. In other parts of the country it may work better. I have it mounted on the trunk-lid, just below the 3rd tail light. Even so, on streets with a lot of large trees at low speeds it does drop out.

Sirius and XM using different methods of signal delivery. Sirius has a number of satellites in orbit but only 2 or 3 are visibible at any one time to the CONUS (CONtinental Unites States). XM has a pair of stationary satellites in geosynchronos orbit at 85.1 degrees and 115 degrees as well as numerous repeaters in urban areas.

So if you have Sirius, reception will vary by where the satellites are in the sky. With XM, if you don't get reception in a location, you never will unless they add a repeater near-by.
