XM install. Just need to ask a question.

I am familiar with satellite radio having had xm for a few years. I understand the modulation, cassette, direct wired issues etc.

My question is simple. If I plop down the nearly $600 for the dealership to install xm to my car (the ES 350 premium system - not navi or ML) I am assuming this is a direct xm installation - not some cheap fm modulation or any type of wireless thing? Is that the correct assumption or am I going to be disappointed.? Also, does anyone know where I can find info on the system I have. The brocheurs speak nicely regarding the better system but I was wondering about the specifics of my system - subwoofer? amplifier? Any links perhaps. Thanks greatly!

It is a direct install. No fm modulation or wireless. Had it installed by the dealer several weeks ago and have been very happy. Recommend the antenna be placed on the rear deck next to the center taillight. Should be able to do a search on this board and find addtional info as this has been discussed before. Sorry, but I have not inr on the specs for the radio.

If you are somewhat mechanically inclinded you could save yourself about $300 and do it yourself. I did mine myself and it was simple. It is all done in the trunk area of the car next to the amplifier.

if you are not a DIY'er, order the XM kit from here http://www.lexus-parts.com/partlist....37&ModelID=162 and if you have someone like tweeter or auto sound, take it there and have em installed for about a $100 and you'll save yourself some money. It is a very easy install if you want to do it yourself.

wow guys and thanks. I didnt realize that I could do it. I have been on vacation a few days and just now am seeing your posts.

As it stands I am taking the car in tomorrow for them to finally fix the bluetooth/microphone issue.

They were also going to install the xm for $569.00 total which would include the kit for $300 and I guess $269 for the install.

I may have to look very carefully tonight at the instructions on that kit and decide if it is something I could to. I dont want to take any chances on frying something or another - but the prospect of saving $269 is something I have to consider.

Thanks again.
