Default How much oil does the engine hold

I don't know if anyone is concerned with this but the owners manual seems to lack this information, so for a simple oil change how many quarts does the ES350 take

Watching the ES 350 Dealer Info vid, it seems that the fluid is special Lexus 'World Standard Fluid' so the car lacks a dipstick, and requires a Lexus dealership to change the fluids...

I saw that video, and I thought that they meant tranny fluid & dipstick, not oil. Maybe I'll take a second look if only the dealer can change the oil at $100 a pop!

i believe that is the tranny fluid.

oil and filter still have to be changed by conventional means. Oil fill cap and yellow ring dipstick are still present.

I did pop open the hood at the dealer and agree they were talking about the tranny - it is supposed to be a closed system. I seem to remember a cover you need to pop off to check or add oil.

Wow that's a lot of oil for a 3.5L six.

thats a lot of oil! I hope thats not true, otherwise a synthetic oil change becomes kinda expensive. The lexus service department here told me 5 quarts.

6.4 quarts with filter is correct. (This figure was taken out of the owners manual).

There seems to be a discrepancy between what the manual says and what my oil capacity is. I have an 08 ES350 and just did my first oil change. I put in a little over 6 quarts and the dip stick shows the oil level way over the "full" mark. Can anyone confirm if this is happening to them?

A little over 6.2 quarts is what mine takes with a new filter.

6.4 quarts would be the TOTAL capacity. like if you ran it to get the oil warm and let it drain for an hour or two, getting every last bit out of the engine at once is tough. there will always be a little oil coating some components.
I put ~6.2 quarts in the wifes car on Sunday.
