How much oil does the engine hold

This is like beating a dead horse. The dry fill is 6.4 quarts. So the easy way to do an oil change is to run the engine to warm. Drain the oil out of the engine and filter. Replace the filter and add 6 quarts of oil. Start the engine and run for a few minutes and check for leaks. Turn it off and let it sit for 2-5 minutes. Check the oil and fill as necessary. Add a little at a time and wait a minute and then check it again. Do this until you get a full reading on the dip stick. Next you can either go inside and have a glass of wine or you can continue to check the dip stick until it is dead nuts. I'm having wine now and will check my oil just before I change it at 10,000 miles. 2nd oil change about to be done.

Lexus/Toyota recommend 0W20 synthetic oil. Toyota Genuine Motor Oil (TGMO) is made for Toyota by ExxonMobil to Toyota specifications. Think of it as Mobil 1 on steroids as it has more additives for the extended change interval. However, all 0W20 oils appear to be full synthetic. Many use Mobil 1, of which there are several types. Some like the extended drain version due to our recommended 10,000 mile oil change. I have used Pennzoil Platinum and it has also worked well. Costco sells regular Mobil 1 0W20 and it is fine for this vehicle.
This vehicle has a canister oil filter, check Youtube for instructions on how to change the filter if not familiar with them. It is a bit more complicated and messy over the typical metal can spin on filter.

Use 5w30 as the manual states. I was thinking of the RX350 which takes 0w20. My father has a 2010 ES350 and I recall it does take 5w30 as stated in your manual. I find this confusing as I think they are the same engine in both vehicles. I still would recommend synthetic if going for 10,000 mile oil changes. If only going for 5,000 miles, then regular or semi-synthetic will be fine.

5/30 is what's called for on our 2007. However, I've been using 10/30 for the past 130K miles or so. We had the dreaded timing cover leak and the 10/30 greatly reduced the seepage. It still seeps a bit but loss of oil if virtually nil.

Just an update as to what volume I am finding. So while I changed my oil and filter on my 2010 I took some measurements. I use the suction method to extract the oil. When doing this I managed to extract 6 quarts until I couldn't get any more out. I then removed the filter and measured what came out of the filter and it was 4 ounces. So that's what I got . The OM states 6.4 quarts or 6 quarts and 12.8 OZ. Just an FYI

Just did my first oil change. I let it drain til it started trickling. I then jacked up the passenger side and a bunch more oil came draining out.
When I refilled it took exactly 7 qts. I guess a simple ole gravity drain leaves a half quart of old oil in there.

What I'm sharing with you is simple. If, after you drain the oil, you feel like wasting another few minutes jacking up the passenger side of the car, you will drain another half qt. out and be able to put in another half qt. of fresh oil.

There seems to be a discrepancy between what the manual says and what my oil capacity is. I have an 08 ES350 and just did my first oil change. I put in a little over 6 quarts and the dip stick shows the oil level way over the "full" mark. Can anyone confirm if this is happening to them?
