Thinking about getting a 07-09 Lexus ES350

Hi guys, I am currently car shopping and have done a little bit of research into these older Lexus ES 350s and from I understand they're quality and reliability is comparable to their Toyota counter parts (obviously, no surprise lmao) but as with any older car I understand they also have their own minor issues that come with age. Mostly looking at 07-09, maybe a '10 if its within budget. I'm hoping to just learn more from you about what I should look out for when inspecting and what I should I expect if I do end up taking one home or if it would just be more wise for me to get a pre-2007 Camry XLE equivalent that I am also looking into. I am mostly looking at private listings on FB marketplace/Craigslist but I would also consider a dealership car. If you also have helpful resources to share that would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Early years have few issues with rubber oil line rapturing (there is a fix for it to be replaced with metal one) and also some flaring transmission issues. Make sure oil line is replaced with metal one or budget for it to be done ASAP. Do a thorough test of transmission shifting properly. Make sure there are no excessive oil leaks, such as timing cover. Some leak is acceptable, most
of these cars have timing cover leak.
its an old car, so set your expectations appropriately

You should check for 5 common issues:

Timing cover leak (expensive);
VVT-i rubber line (cheap);
3-4 shift flare when cold (it can be fixed with an software update, memory reset or in WCS valve body replacement);
Rear sway bushings (cheap);
VVT-i gears (noise on start up when cold).

I think most of the cars from early 2007 will have timing cover leak, not likely to find one without it. All depends how bad it is…

There is also CCN video about buying 07-12 es350, and what to look for. But I find it that on some things he is way too strict given car age

I have a 2007 and wish I'd paid more attention to Consumer Reports' reliability ratings for used cars. Like most Toyota and Lexus cars, the 2007 Lexus ES350 was rated very highly by owners except in one category - electrical. It's a beautiful car that usually drives like a dream, but too many times when I've tried to start it nothing happens. Many mechanics have worked on it and tried to identify the problem. The starter has been replaced and the alternator, and too many batteries.
