2011 ES350 problems to look out for?
I’m not currently a Lexus owner but there’s a car locally that has caught my eye. It’s a 2011 with 124k miles and the owner is asking $8500. I know to look out for front timing cover leaks with this engine but are there any other issues or common problems to look out for?
This car has the navigation screen that also controls the climate settings and I have been warned that in the previous generation it was prone to failure and replacements aren’t available. Is that the case with this generation as well? I really don’t need navigation and so aI would pass on this particular car should that be a likely issue. TIA for any advice. |
The engine is a great engine, very reliable and long lasting. power steering pumps are known to leak a smidge. some guys just tighten the timing cover bolts a bit and fix the leak. other than the normal maintenance items the suspension may need some work. shocks start to go at some point. I haven't had any problems with the NAV, other than goog maps is better. over all the car is about as reliable as you can get, and parts are dirt cheap compared to say BMW. Good mechanics can be found much easier than a good BMW mechanic, the car is very easy to work on. oh yeah, some joke you can rebuild the entire car with a 10,13,15,18, 21 mm socket. it seems the speakers tend to wear out, might give each speaker a close listen. they tend to detach from the foam ring. if the car has HID, make sure they are working properly, they can get expensive to fix.

Timing cover leak, if its a very small leak, or more like a stain, its no big deal. A lot of these cars develop them, but most of the time its too small to be an issue such that you need to periodically add oil. Mine is lightly damp, but oil level drop is not noticeable .

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately it’s a moot point. Although the seller said it had a clean title when I searched the VIN it came back as a salvage title for flood damage and I don’t need that kind of headache.
