EVAP canister vent valve

Hello everyone!

Got the check engine light on my 2011 ES 350. The ODB code is P0456 (EVAP System Small Leak). Replaced the gas cap with a new genuine one and erased the code, but the problem came back after a while. Took to the repair shop for a smoke test. Was told there's a leak (valve stuck thus can't fully close?) at canister vent valve. To fix it would require a new canister assembly and 5 hours of labor to take lots of things out just to be able to get access to the canister and then put them back. The estimated total cost is more than $1K, which seems like a lot for such an issue.

A few questions:
- Is there a quick and dirty way to mitigate / patch up / tape the issue?
- Is it possible to replace the vent valve separately instead of a whole new canister assembly? I found this on eBay but not sure if it's the right fit.
- Is there a repair manual that one can follow to do this repair in a DIY way?
- Lastly, any risk or damage to the car, if I just ignore the issue and leave it as is?

Thanks in advance!

I would not DIY this or cheap out on eBay parts and you do not want to leave it, evap system is a critical part of your car's emmission systems, you can do a lot more than $1k of damage to your car if you don't do the job properly. Also, if you're in a state where there's annual emmissions testing this would be an automatic fail.

I would spend more on this just for peace of mind + your mechanic's warranty.

I suggest checking low-hanging fruits like check hoses. If they are old, good idea to replace them. See the video below it is for es330 but should have the same logic. Hope this helps
