i was at the tire shop and had my winter tires put on the other day i asked the counter person how the car knows when the wheels are rotated to what corner the sensor is now on
they told me on lexus and toyota that it automaticaly sets itself after driving for a bit is this true or do they have to do something that they didnt to make sure the sensors are on the correct wheel showing the right one on the dash when i look at the TPMS ?

Lexus has a separate antenna at each wheel well and therefore knows the sensor locations. Toyota has a single antenna and therefore the car only knows the pressures for each sensor ID but does not know which sensor is located in which corner. They could have just made small labels (e. g. A/B/C/D) on each wheel and displayed the pressures for each label. Unfortunately Toyota has decided not to display the pressures at all for fear that some dumb owners may get confused. You just get the warning light when there is a significant drop in pressure in one of the wheels.

Default Blank TPMS

Any update on this issue or what was done to resolve? I have the exact same issue with my 2014 ES 350. The TPS Light blinks then stays solid. The reset button does work and I have verified the correct tire pressure in each tire. Also my TMPS display shows all dashes. I don't want to take to Lexus and pay a thousands to address. Any advice on how I can fix?

2013 / ES 350 / Original Stock wheels 17 in with 215 / 55 / R17 Tires. All was working great, the reading of the pressure was to the T on display.

The problem arose when I put new tires (235 / 50 / ZR17). The display screen shows " --- " for a all tires. the Low Pressure Tire Indicator light is blinking and then solid lit.

I have tried the reset procedure

Park the car in a safe spot and turn the engine off.
  1. Fill the tires to the appropriate air pressure. ...
  2. Turn the engine switch to Ignition On mode.
  3. Press and hold the reset switch until the tire pressure warning light blinks slowly three times.

I didnt have any luck...

While the technician at the shop changed the tires, I know for a fact that NONE of the sensors were damaged during the process..
so my question is , what can be the problem ?? Can I not have different size tires on the stock wheels ? It's hardly possible for all 4 TPMS sensors go bad ..

Any advise would be hepful.

Moderators: pls. forgive me if this was a repeat of any other thread, i have checked and rechecked, i couldn't find anything on any thread, hence posting a new one.

Thanks in advance to whomever can provide feedback/help/troubleshoot.

Are the TPS sensors original? The batteries in the sensors don't last forever.
This sounds very similar to my situation. The reading on the dash became "uncertain" (i.e., sometimes showing pressure, sometimes --). My sensors were original 2013.
I had then replaced when I put new tires on in January. There have been no problems since.

Thanks pab12 for responding. They are the original TPS sensors. My initial thought is that it was a bad sensor, however I went to a tire shop and they walk around to each tire and scanned it and informed me that they were getting a signal from each TPS. Not sure if a low battery would still give out a signal but cause the light to blink and stay on and the display turn read dashes.........I may just have to pull the trigger and get new sensors. Was your TPMS light blinking then staying on as well at start-up?

Thanks

Normal life expectancy on the batteries used in this generation is in the range of 8-10 years so you're in that range. A weak battery might cause the TPMS to be read by a hand-held reader close to the sensor but missed by the receiver in the vehicle itself. If you're up for new tires any time soon I'd get them changed then...save yourself some extra mount/dismount/rebalance costs. Meantime just keep an eye on the pressures manually. Oh...one other thing...if you can, and before the batteries die completely, get and write down in a safe place the ID # of each of the 4 sensors. Might save you a bunch of car (Lexu$) reprogramming money if you can put reprogrammable sensors in as replacements. A few threads around here on that...the "Search" function is your friend.

I can't remember, it was a process that took sometime to become fully evident. However, my tires needed be replaced, and the TPS display showed "--".
I took it to my regular tire dealer, they replaced the tires, and confirmed that the TPS sensors needed to be replaced. But yes, the yellow TPS light was on when I brought it in, and off later :-)
Oh, the TPS display had been very on and off for awhile, being -- more often when it was cold.

Seriously, if it wasn't for the yellow light on the dash i would have just waited until I really needed new tires (mine were at the ~70% used level).
But before hand I tried pushing the reset button under the dash in front of the steering wheel with no effect.
I also got close to just putting a piece of black electrical tape over the yellow light and waiting out the last few K miles on the tires ...

Did they also check the spare? Most ECU's will pick up the signal better than a scan tool so if the scan tool read them they may just need to relearn the ID's to the ECU. If all 5 sensors are working and your getting the flashing TPMS light at start up I'm thinking someone kicked the push button under the passenger side dashboard. Look under on the passenger side and see if there is a button. It clicks in and out when pushed. Make sure it is clicked to the "out " position to recognize the main set of wheels on your vehicle.

There is no TPMS on the spare on an ES of this generation unless the vehicle was originally equipped with a full-size spare. From the manual:
