Default Attempting Nav install

Read through the threads on the install. Does voice work when done ? I thought there was a separate thread on hooking up to the amp for voice prompts.
Any other tips on this ? Will be using 2008 Nav unit going into 2007 car.
thx.

I would love to have a stock Nav in my car, but from what I read, it's a very difficult install due to mising, different wiring requirements. Good luck with your attempt, and please post photos, diagrams, or anything else you find out if you're successful.

Honestly I don’t think it’s worth the hastle. I wanted a ES without the navigation but found one with the Navigation. The main issue is that there’s no usb input for music. There is Bluetooth but only for phone calls, not for streaming music. I didn’t even know that was a thing until I tried to search how to stream music. Your forced to use the mini jackbinput and of like me you have a newer IPhone you can’t charge and play music at the same time. I haven’t looked to extensively but seems there’s a device that gives you an iPod input but it’s made for the old school iPod before lightning cables, from what I’ve read there doesn’t seem to be a lightning cable version only option is to use an adapter which doesn’t work great. All OEM navigation systems suck in general. Not sure what version I’m running but even in my Explorer with the newest version I just end up using Waze. I’d been way happier getting a $500 Kenwood in dash GPS with Apple integration. I’d bet it’d be cheaper and much easier as well.

Really? You're saying cars with stock nav have no usb plug in the console? Even my stock radio plays music from my USB flash drive inserted in the USB plug in the console. I would imagine the stock nav to do the same. Then again, I have a 2010 so maybe lower years don't have the plug.

The 2007-2008 don't have USB ports. To play music on the radio you need to use the mini 2.5 mm input jack. I think what ellocovg is referring to is that the newer iPhones don't have head phone jacks, so to connect the phone to the radio requires the use of a dongle. But now you can't charge the phone.

There are Bluetooth adapter that will work with the 2.5 input jack though. This way you can stream music over the the blue tooth connection and charge your phone at the same time.

Yeah unfortunately the pre-refresh ES don’t have a USB input. I expected that going in, what I didn’t expect was for the Bluetooth to only do phone calls and not music. I don’t ever remember seeing any Bluetooth device that was setup that way. That being said I still enjoy it and I think it sounds pretty good, eventually I’ll get some kind of adapter not a deal breaker but I wouldn’t pay to put in a factory system. Funds would go allot further forwards a aftermarket in dash gps with allot more features.
