Attachment 393541Attachment 393542Hi All! My 96 2ES is slowly crawling towards registration. I've replaced the caps in the ECU, replaced the blown bulbs around the place, replaced ALL the bulbs in the cluster with LEDS (except the Airbag Warning and Alternator Warning lights, because with LEDS they glow very slightly all the time with LEDS. Possibly because LEDS glow at a lower voltage than incandescent bulbs do. In any case, if there are any warning lights visible, it won't pass inspection. Putting incandescent bulbs back in these locations fixed that.)

My last hurdle is the odometer. I bought a replacement cluster (well, three replacement clusters, actually. But finally got a "good one") and plugged it in just to see that the odometer worked.

As you can see, the mileage is 299319KM.

Here is my original cluster with the CMC (Combination Meter Computer) from the replacement cluster swapped into it.

The mileage stayed the same. Reading the odometer reprogramming thread here (https://www.clublexus.com/forums/es-...ogramming.html) says the odometer value is stored in the speedo. I used my own speedo but the reading stayed the same.

Soooooooo, the mileage must be stored in the CMC.

The how-to above is for a 3ES, has anybody here changed the odo value for the 2ES? I looked all over the CMC for the chip mentioned in the how-to, but I can't find it or anything similar.

I'd really hate to register my car with 299000km, when the actual car has less than 120000. Not to mention the confustion if I do and subsequently fix it.

may have been easier to have your original gauge cluster repaired by one of those Electronics shops that advertise on here.

I haven't seen any repair guides for gauge cluster mileage adjustment for the 2ES.

I wouldn't register the car with the incorrect mileage especially one that high, it really reduces the value of the car and makes for some really awkward conversations if and when you go to sell it.

 

You're right, I should have had my cluster repaired. I think I might still. I'll send them my faulty CMC and reinstall it when I get it back.

Too late for holding off the registration, I did it this morning. But I asked if they record the odo and they said they DO but customers can't get access to the historical data. They said it doesn't matter what mileage is supplied.
