Default ES300h check engine light

This is similar to another recent thread but I think the cause is different. I was driving slowly with cruise control on when the check engine light came on, a few restarts and it still didn't go away. All fluid levels are OK, no other errors show up on start-up or driving and the car drives fine on both ICE and EV modes.

I'm bringing the car in first thing tomorrow. I called my usual Lexus guy and he didn't know what the problem could be either. I'm a bit freaked out, to be honest. Wish I had an OBD dongle to use with Carista.

If your car is under warranty, they should be able to take care of it. The Check Engine light can come on for a gazillion reasons, including a loose gas cap or something silly like that. So don't freak out yet

That said, we think it's a good idea for every driver to keep an OBD dongle in the glove box so they can immediately check what the problem is when something like this happens, and be able to determine whether it's safe to keep driving. "Check engine" diagnosis is free with Carista (and other apps too), so you only have to buy the dongle itself... which is cheap - ranging from $10-$50. If you have more complicated problems that require Lexus-specific diagnostics (like ABS, traction control, airbag, etc.), then Carista is the only app that can help and that functionality is paid. Just FYI

Here are some links to OBD dongles: http://www.caristaapp.com/hardware/

Check engine light, no one ever wants to see that. How many miles does it have? It is a 2014 model correct ?

10,000 km, June 2014 production date. The dealer mechanics hooked it up to the diagnostic computer and it showed an ECU fault, so they did a software update to fix things. Everything seems to be running normally.

The check engine light turned on when I was going downhill with cruise control on at 60 km/h... Maybe that triggered an edge case or something. I'm going to get an OBD dongle now so I can read faults with Carista.

Dumb question but where's the OBD port on the ES300h?

The only dumb questions are the ones that are not asked.

The ODB connector is under the dash, in the drivers foot-well. Above and slightly to the right of the parking-brake pedal.
