Default Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just got back from seattle from a family vacation for the weekend and i was driving my car tonight and i knew something was wrong. The car wasnt shifting itself to the next gear. It would redline and stay there. If I let go of the gas it would shift, I headed home after this and then the car just would shift from 1st gear to neutral. (this is all happening when im in "D") I put on my hazards and pull over, try to start the car and it doesnt go into gear. AHHHH. Then i let it sit for like 5 mins and start it and it goes onto gear, my windows down and just before it shifts i hear something like a belt slipping or rubbing. Then the car does its whole neutral thing again but i was right by home so i coasted and parked! ANYBODY KNOW WHATS WRONG!! PLEASE HELP
MY BABY IS OUT OF COMMISION

you have a 92 right?? i was thrown off there for a second cuz of the white ES in the sig (97+).
anyway, before all this was happening, was your car slipping gears?? sorry to tell you, i think you already know but u gotta get your car towed to the dealer. "car not going into gear" sounds like what i had...but i didn't have a belt problem. when was the last time you had your tranny serviced? did they say anything then? (in my case i believe my torque converter was MESSED up)

ya i have a 92 just didnt have a good pic for the sig when i was making it but anyways i was prolly due in for a service anyways ill take it in tomorrow. Theres a local mechanic around here that used to work for lexus and is lexus certified so ill see him tomorrow. I dont think its a belt problem but because its not like a belt would slip on and off so i dunno. Did this happen to you before?

no, not as bad as you, but a few times i remember my car having trouble going into the next gear (redlining almost for a long time). i'd have to let my foot off the gas to get it to upshift. in the last few months i had the ES, it would ALWAYS do this thing where say i needed to switch lanes, accelerating real fast cuz there's cars coming from behind...i'd step on the gas so hard, but my speed was not accelerating at all, just cruising at the speed i was going before, while my rpms shot way up. putting the car on ECT PWR on remedied this for a while, but it's not like it was a fix. do you have this problem?

That's not a good thing. Make sure you get your tranny flushed every 30k miles or more frequent. Always use Dexron III or IV.

i'm sorry to say this, but yes, it is a possibility that you will need a new tranny. IF it in fact IS the tranny that's acting up, and from your description, it doesn't sound minor the only "good" thing i can say is that it "might" just be the torque converter/clutch plates. at this point, i can almost guarantee you that flushing the tranny fluid will not get you anywhere. it will be black again in about a thousand miles. if you have time, open up the transmission fluid drain pan, and take out the transmission screen (a flat, rectangular silver thing). there is a little square opening on one side of it. from the opening, you can see inside the screen (a filter, basically). check what kind of particles are stuck to it. there are probably metal bits and tiny black gunky stuff stuck to it. if it's metallic you can just lift it off w/ a magnet.
