Air Flow Meter question
I'm wondering if a rebuilt air flow meter would deliver any noticeable improvement in mileage on my over 325,000km 1993 ES300? Car has recent plugs, oxygen sensors, distributor/rotor, timing checked, and gets regular fuel injector cleaner put through it. A rebuilt Beck Arnely AFM would cost me under $200.00. I'm thinking this metering device is a main source of info for the computer to calibrate fuel/air mix, so a new one should benefit....or would it?
The '93 has no MAF, it has an air flow meter. There is nothing to clean and they almost never fail or wear out. If they do go bad, generally the car will not idle properly or at all.

Has anyone done this and what were the results? I'm musing over getting the rebuilt AFM to have as backup in case I mess up the one on the car.

You have the 2nd one.
There are two common types of mass airflow sensors in use on automotive engines. These are the vane meter and the hot wire.
