What's this part called?
I had a rubbing/grinding noise in my car so I took it into the shop and it turned out to be a loose plate that sits behind the rotor at the back. All 4 wheels have it, the front one still being solid and the rear ones totally rusted/corroded away.
My mechanic said it was called a "backing plate", but when I go to rock auto or search around online, I can't find the part. I want to replace them the next time I do my rotors, my mechanic said its not that important and it's alot of labour because you have to take everything off. Anyone know what the part is called? Is it important to replace? The one that was making noise was so rusted down my mechanic just snapped it off. |
Lexus calls it a dust cover, don't think you can buy it separately, you have to buy the entire steering knuckle/hub assembly . If you really want to repair this, best bet is to get a wrecker part, but it is no picnic to put them in especially the rear ones.

I always call it a backing plate. And you can usually only get it at the dealer. You have to get them from the South to get them unrusted. If you like I'll put you in contact with my friend who can get them from his local junkyard for you in Florida. Thats where I get them from for the Drum to Disc swaps I do on Camry's.
You don't really HAVE to have it honestly. The rears I'd say are more important then the front though. |

It keeps the road crap and water off it. The reason I say it;s more important in the rear is due to all the e-brake components. PM me your Email and I;ll have him send you a message.

Again, there is a reason for going to Pick and Pull junkyards as they are cheap.......
And they use the SAME backing plates as the 92-01 Camry's. Part 46503-20010 (PLATE SUB-ASSY, PARKING BRAKE, RH) was found on the following models: Date range Model Frames/Options Found in diagram 08/1985-07/1987 TOYOTA CELICA ST16* 46-01: PARKING BRAKE & CABLE 08/1987-07/1989 TOYOTA CELICA ST16* 46-01: PARKING BRAKE & CABLE 09/1989-08/1993 TOYOTA CELICA AT180,ST18* 46-01: PARKING BRAKE & CABLE 09/1993-07/1999 TOYOTA CELICA AT200,ST204 46-01: PARKING BRAKE & CABLE 08/1986-07/1988 TOYOTA CAMRY SV2*,VZV21 46-01: PARKING BRAKE & CABLE 08/1988-05/1991 TOYOTA CAMRY SV2*,VZV21 46-01: PARKING BRAKE & CABLE 06/1991-07/1996 TOYOTA CAMRY SXV10,VCV10,MCV10 46-01: PARKING BRAKE & CABLE 08/1996-06/2001 TOYOTA CAMRY SXV2*,MCV2* 46-01: PARKING BRAKE & CABLE 07/1988-08/1991 TOYOTA CAMRY SV2*,VZV21 46-01: PARKING BRAKE & CABLE 09/1991-06/1996 TOYOTA CAMRY SXV10,VCV10,MCV10 46-01: PARKING BRAKE & CABLE 07/1996-06/2001 TOYOTA CAMRY SXV20,MCV20 46-01: PARKING BRAKE & CABLE 08/1996-06/2001 LEXUS ES300 MCV20 46-01: PARKING BRAKE & CABLE 06/1998-11/2002 TOYOTA SOLARA ACV20,MCV20,SXV20 46-01: PARKING BRAKE & CABLE |
Yep, hope your contact can help hook him up. Here near Seattle the junkyards all pretty much suck with slim pickings.

I need these to, one just rusted off and the second is close to it
|
Ok, if anyone else really needs these, PM me your email so I can have my friend contact you. FYI, this is a very good friend of EEngineer and I who is very very well known in the Camry community. Not some random person.

its a dust cover and it keeps the back of the rotor and caliper say from rocks not something to panic about
