Question CEL 0446 need help

Recently my CEL code came on and I need some advice on what I should be looking at, the CEL code is P0446 and have a print out from Autozone with a small description saying

EVAP system vent control

probably cause:
open or short circuit
poor electrical connection
Faulty vent solenoid

Thanks guys

Love the video...made things alot clearer for me as I have a 0446 code that I have been clearing the CEL for 12 months without repairing it.

I have no emission testing where I live, is there any reason for me to repair this issue? What are the negative effects of not repairing, and on th other hand whet are the positive effects of repairing (besides no CEL).

Thanks in advance.

change the vent valve!!!!! gas caps will prompt ___small leak detected. the vent valve is only supposed to open on the freeway at high speeds to release fuel fumes..they didn't want all our cars leaking gas fumes will parked in our garage. u should fix it to regain pressure in your fuel system..the pump will work harder if the valve is open all the time.. i need to change mine also!!!!!

same problem, R&R purge solenoid. Just checked the monitors today and the evap monitor has completed with no CEL's thus far.

Dorman makes one for around 26 dollars. sure beats a 300 dollar charcoal canister.

thumbs up for another bay area peep

Update on CEL, I basically decided to have another shop read my code and pretty was told its not a big deal, and they checked my gas cap said it looked fine, they reset it and told me if it came back to bring it in again. Well I decided to go ahead and purchase a new cap online, roughly $30 after shipping. I put it in, and never reset the CEL by unhooking the battery. Well maybe a week or 2 later I look down and my CEL is gone.
I know I didn't reset it so I assuming it went away on its own after the new cap being in place for abit. Long story short, after 188k a replacement gas cap saved the day
As for any difference since then. Absolutely no noticeable difference from CEL on or off since replacement. been off 2 days now.
Thanks for everyones help. Maybe a new gas cap can help the rest of some your guys problem as well. GL

Please post the part number the solenoid, if it's that cheap then it's well worth trying.
